Our land abounds in natures gifts,
Of beauty rich and rare,
In history's page, let every stage
Advance Australia Fair!
In joyful strains then let us sing,
"Advance Australia Fair!"
FOUR WAY TEST
1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

by 9.30 am on the Monday of the meeting.
All projects, scholars, and vocational training teams funded by global grants work toward specific goals in one or more of the Foundation’s six areas of focus:
JULY
As July is usually Changeover time at Rotary clubs throughout the world, there is no specific focus
However, it is the perfect time to consider preparations for Membership Month in August
Maureen’s Moments
#3
At last Monday’s dinner meeting we welcomed Lance King, as our guest speaker, who is the Co-ordinator of Emergency Management at Latrobe City Council. Lance provided a slideshow showing the different emergency situations that have occurred both locally and interstate that he has been involved with and coordinated. A great insight into Lance’s work was presented
Our meeting progressed well under the supervision of Sergeant Julian, who was able to collect a number of fines with his jokes from his ‘Great Aussie Joke Book’ as well as others he has collected along the way.
Our Program Chair, Len, provided an update of what is coming up in the next couple of months and these will be published in our Bulletin. Len advised that he has organised a fun night for next Monday with a “Tell a Joke” night and informed everyone that they will have to bring along their best joke. There will be two judges for the night and the winner of the best joke will win a prize. (Probably a Joke Book!)
As part of updating our ‘Women in Rotary’ brochure, I gathered all the girls together to get a couple of good photos to include in the brochure. Hopefully our photographer, Bryon, will be able to use his computer skills to ensure we are all looking our best!
As advised on Monday, I will not be present at next Monday’s meeting as Alan and I are heading to Darwin to see family, experience some hot weather and, oh that’s right, have to watch some footy match.
Bowel scan is part of a community bowl cancer awareness program supported by Australian Rotary Health. In 2014/15 over 730 people had positive bowelscan tests in the Victorian program. Some of these tests were confirmed as cancer or other conditions requiring treatment. This year the Bowelscan program is running from May 1st to May 31st. The bowel scan kits cost $15.00 and are available from a local pharmacy. It is recommended that every person over the age of 40 years should be tested biannually. People with a family history of bowel cancer should bring this to the attention of their medical practitioner and consider screening from their mid 20’s. Persuade your family and friends to participate in this program. If you require information on the use of the kit or information on the Rotary Bowelscan program contact 1300 779 694

Ben Verschuur was President and Lance Collins Secretary. A highlight of the year was the nomination of Bryon Puddy, as District Governor Elect, a significant honour for the Club. In a significant Club initiative, the 1st District RYPEN Seminar was held at Woorabinda Camp. This was attended by 22 students across the District and co-ordinated by Ross Maxfield and Ed Achorn while Clive O’Donnell served as “Chief of Catering” with his unique expertise. A large number of Rotarians and Rotaractors assisted as both Presenters and Workers.
Community Service organized the purchase of “Cobber Cars”, designed to teach Primary School Children road safety, which were donated to Yallourn TAFE’s traffic section. A circular brick garden bed was laid at the Botanic Gardens while $1,000 was donated to the Life Education Caravan and $900 was donated for a Resuscitation Teaching Kit to be housed at Moe Secondary College. International Exchange Student, Jane West, arrived from Canada, Jane proved to be an energetic and enthusiastic ambassador for her country who regularly attended Club Meetings. A cycling enthusiast, she took part in the Great Victorian Bike Ride. Debbie Nave returned from her year in Sweden
Club members enjoyed a combined meeting with the Rotary Club of Morwell and Hazelwood. Col Ashby organized an “OOM-PAH-PAH”.The International Night at the Moe Tavern proved to be a great social success despite a massive power blackout which hit Moe. Candles and gas lights added atmosphere while the Tavern continued to serve high quality food and drink. Club members were shocked by the deaths of former Rotarians – PP Brian O’Reilly and PP John Dwyer – early in 1992. Both had been stalwart Club members and community leaders over many years. The Clubs meeting place moved to Da Nunzio’s Restaurant. PP Chas Witts was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship at Changeover Night.
