Di's Dialogue # 40

A busy weekend ahead with commitments to Rotary District 9820 training and learning!

Later this afternoon, I will be participating in the final President-Elect (PE) training session in Traralgon at the Latrobe Convention Centre. At some point during the afternoon, the draft District budget will be presented to 2021-2022 PE's for discussion. I have some concerns about the draft budget and have had a discussion with our Treasurer Bryon. I expect other PE's will join in with what I anticipate will be a robust discussion about membership fees!

District Assembly is being held on Sunday, online. If you are interested, please register as it is not too late! There is also a special focus on membership so I will be attending that session to learn more about how we can seek out, engage with,, and retain new and existing members.

Speaking of potential new members, Rog Taylor and I met with Jamie Hunt on Friday and spent some time chatting with him about Rotary as well as other topics of interest.

Monday night is Club Assembly and we will meet at the Moe Hotel at 6.00pm for a 6.30pm start. President, Treasurer and Secretary reports will be given post Board meeting, together with reports from our committee chairs.

I really appreciate the work done by committee Chairs in holding fireside meetings and look forward to hearing plans.

Thank you to Alan Bishop for accepting the role of Chair (Community committee) for the 2021-2022 Rotary year. Diane Wilkinson will continue as Chair of 'IF' - International/Foundation committee and, when Robin Noakes returns, he will assume the role of Chair, Youth/Vocational for 2021-2022. In the meantime, Bryce Eishold will be acting as Chair. Thank you to Barry Dunstan for accepting the role of Sergeant-at-Arms, Len Cairns will continue on as Club Protection Officer and will be co-opted to the Board, and Helen MacDonald will be our new bulletin editor. Thank you all for accepting club responsibilities.

Finally, one last plug! Rotary International District 9820 Changeover will be held on Sunday 27 June at the Italian Australian Club in Morwell at 12.00 Noon for a 12.30pm start. Cost is $45.00 per person and is inclusive of a two course luncheon, welcome drinks, tea and coffee. RSVP to District Secretary Elect, PDG Don Ripper ripper@netspace.net.au or text 0429 440 468 by 16 June.

My final thoughts before I head off to the final PET3 session in Traralgon from Winston Churchill:

"I am always ready to learn
although I do not always like being taught"

I wish safe passage to fellow Rotarians travelling on our national roads and I look forward to your safe return. To other Rotarians who are post-operations, I wish you a speedy recovery and, to all other Rotarians, enjoy this beautiful weekend!!

A Quiz!
As we race down this Highway of Life, we all pick up some pearls of wisdom:

1. The nicest thing about the future is . . . that it always starts tomorrow.

2. Money will buy a fine dog, but only kindness will make him wag his tail.

3. If you don't have a sense of humor, you probably don't have any sense at all.

4. Seat belts are not as confining as wheelchairs.

5. A good time to keep your mouth shut is when you're in deep water.

6. How come it takes so little time for a child who is afraid of the dark to become a teenager who wants to stay out all night?

7. Business conventions are important. . .because they demonstrate how many people a company can operate without.

8. Why is it that at class reunions you feel younger than everyone else looks?

9. Scratch a cat . . . and you will have a permanent job.

10. No one has more driving ambition than the teenage boy who wants to buy a car.

11. There are no new sins; the old ones just get more publicity.

12. There are worse things than getting a call for a wrong number at 4 a.m. - like, it could be the right number.

13. No one ever says "It's only a game" when their team is winning.

14. I've reached the age where 'happy hour' is a nap.

15. Be careful about reading the fine print. . . . there's no way you're going to like it.

16. The trouble with bucket seats is that not everybody has the same size bucket.

17. Do you realize that, in about 40 years, we'll have thousands of old ladies running around with tattoos?      (And rap music will be the Golden Oldies!)

18. Money can't buy happiness -- but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Cadillac than in a Yugo.

19. After 60, if you don't wake up aching in every joint, you're probably dead.

20. Always be yourself because the people that matter don't mind . . . . and the ones that mind don't matter.

21. Life isn't tied with a bow . . . . . . . . but it's still a gift.

and REMEMBER...."POLITICIANS AND DIAPERS SHOULD BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON".
