Robin's Rambles #22

I am pleased to report that our unwell members and partners are recovering and have been seen up
and about.

We had a Board meeting on Monday and will report to the Club at Club Assembly on Monday. In the
meantime we await drying out of water logged ground to enable us to get to the steel erection
phase of the BBQ shelter renewal.

Liam Durkin, Editor of the LV Express, attended the Men’s Health night on Monday 14th and has
written up a half page report, which is excellent for the topic and our Club. Please see on line version
of the paper https://latrobevalleyexpress.com.au/digital-editions/
I attach one of the photos which he kindly passed to me.

Len Cairns and Di Wilkinson have been busy planting Sea Lavender in the Round Rose garden at the
Botanic Gardens. The Joy Of Life Roses are in bloom and look beautiful.

Roger Taylor is readying for the Pride of Workmanship event on 5th December. Always a good night.

Looking forward to seeing you all at Club Assembly on Monday 28th when we can welcome John H
back from his round NZ cruise.

President Robin

November is The Rotary Foundation Month
Since it was founded more than 100 years ago, The Rotary Foundation has spent more than $4 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects.

The Rotary Foundation Mission is to help Rotary members to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace by improving health, providing quality education, improving the environment, and alleviating poverty.

Grants
The Rotary Foundation offers grants that support humanitarian projects, scholarships, and vocational training teams.
  • Global grants support large international projects with long term, sustainable outcomes in one or more of Rotary’s areas of focus.
  • District Grants fund smaller scale, short term projects that address immediate needs in the local community.
  • Disaster Response Grants allow districts to respond extremely rapidly to local disasters, such as earthquakes, floods and bushfires.
To maximise the impact of projects, the Rotary Foundation supports activities that align with Rotary’s Areas of Focus, which are:
  • Basic Education and Literacy
  • Community Economic Development
  • Disease Prevention & Treatment
  • Maternal and Child Health
  • Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution
  • Water, Sanitation and Hygiene
  • Protecting the Environment
An approach that backs real community needs, strategies to ensure projects deliver long-term sustainable benefits, and the Foundation’s focus on the areas of focus dramatically increases the effectiveness of projects and activities.
Rotary Club of Moe Activities
The Rotary Club of Moe undertakes various activities and projects that support the Areas of Focus in a variety of ways, both locally and further afield, including:
  • Supporting education through the Rotary Junior Community Awards, Pride of Workmanship Awards, Rotary Foundation Student Scholarship and our support for the Banyuning Village school in Bali.
  • Supporting the local economy through the Business Excellence Awards, building social capital through community development projects and supporting local events.
  • Disease Prevention and Treatment through ongoing support for the End Polio Now plus campaign to eradicate polio from the world and financial donations to local health and community service organisations, including Latrobe Regional Hospital and Gippsland Rotary Centenary House.
  • Water, Sanitation and Hygiene through support for Operations Toilets Australia, contributions to the purchase of Sky Hydrants through Disaster Aid Australia.
More information on The Rotary Foundation is available at https://www.rotary.org/en/about-rotary/rotary-foundation and in The Foundation Annual Report for 2020/21 at https://www.rotary.org/en/annual-report-2021.
