Is it the TRUTH?

AN URGENT APPEAL FROM ROTARIAN ROBIN NOAKES,
Chair, Vocational and Youth Committee
Hi Fellow Moe Rotarians,

Please review your thoughts on nominations for Rotary Youth Leadership Award program, on the weekend of October 19 - 21.

Nominations close on 31 Aug and we are being asked to respond by District organisers ASAP.

Precis as follows

RYLA is a three day residential high energy program for young leaders aged of 18 and 25
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards program includes thought provoking plenaries, discussion moderators, and professional facilitators from many disciplines. Discussions and experiential sessions focus on what leadership is, qualities of leadership, team-building activities, time and stress management.
Graduates of previous RYLA programs report the course was fantastic opportunity to develop their skills, have fun, and meet an enthusiastic group of like-minded people. RYLA is a life changing experience, so take the challenge and apply today.

SO FAR WE HAVE NO NOMINATIONS FROM OUR CLUB membership.
Please contact me ASAP if you have any prospective nominees.
thanks Robin

  3. Settlement is 7 days from registration date.
  4. Registrations can be made by you on behalf of your members, up to 20 people in one registration.
The registration process has been fully tested and there have already been 135 registrations with no issues. Here is the help page link just to ease any concerns you may have: https://form.jotform.com/81581993305968  or the registration page link: http://www.rotaryconference.org.au/registration.html
A word on the Conference Dinner:
I have had a couple of inquiries about Rotarians who want to bring non registered partners just to the Conference Dinner. The venue allows for 1200 guests at the dinner. On December 1st, if there are vacancies to the Dinner, they will be offered to Conference registrants in the order they have registered, so there is still a chance to bring partners but it is not a forgone conclusion.
Yours in Rotary

David

  3. Any prospective Volunteer Book readers to help with reading program at Newborough Primary School to please contact Carolyne Boothman on boothman.carolyne.m@edumail.vic.gov.au

Last Week's Meeting/Next Week's Meeting
Last Week -
As our numbers were predicted to be well down during the month of September, due to members' travel and a variety of other circumstances, it was agreed that we would try different meeting structures during this period.
To that end, we met last week at our usual venue, the Moe RSL, but in Banjo's Restaurant rather than the Function Room.
This proved to be a fine alternative for our 9 members in attendance, and 2 guests (thanks for coming David Morrison and Kate Noakes). We enjoyed welcoming Hutchy back after his Caribbean escapade, and the informal arrangements allowed us all to have a pleasant evening of fellowship.

Next Week -
Again a different setting - we will visit Gippsland Rotary Centenary House where manager (and past Assistant Governor) Carol Crewe will meet us at 6.30 for a 30 minute presentation which will include an explanation of the forthcoming Stage 3 development followed by a tour of the facility.
Those wishing to attend will need to be at GRCH by 6.20 as our timeframe only permits us to stay for 30 minutes, as we will then leave for Love Pizza and Pasta (Hoyle St Morwell, between Princes Hwy and Buckley Streets) for dinner.
I will notify numbers to them Monday morning, and reservation of our table will be from 7.15.
NB: Because I will be an apology, I will require names no later than Sunday night, and will assume that visitors to Centenary House will also be eating together, unless otherwise informed.
I already have acceptances from President Peter, Alan S, Lyn, Helen M, John H, Dave W and Bryon.

Eating in the 60's

(Paddy has taken a break for a few weeks, so we have some other ideas to fill up some page)

EATING IN THE SIXTIES

Pasta was not eaten in Australia or N.Z.

Curry was a surname.

A takeaway was a mathematical problem.

A pizza was something to do with a leaning tower.

All potato crisps were plain; the only choice we had was
whether to put the salt on or not.

Rice was only eaten as a milk pudding.

Calamari was called squid and we used it as fish bait.

A Big Mac was what we wore when it was raining.

Brown bread was something only poor people ate.

Oil was for lubricating, fat was for cooking.

Tea was made in a teapot using tea leaves and never green.

Sugar enjoyed a good press in those days, and was regarded
as being white gold. Cubed sugar was regarded as posh.

Fish didn't have fingers in those days.

Eating raw fish was called poverty, not sushi.

None of us had ever heard of yoghurt.

Healthy food consisted of anything edible.

People who didn't peel potatoes were regarded as lazy.

Indian restaurants were only found in India.

Cooking outside was called camping.

Seaweed was not a recognised food.

"Kebab" was not even a word, never mind a food.

Prunes were medicinal.

Surprisingly, muesli was readily available, it was called
cattle feed.

Water came out of the tap.
If someone had suggested bottling it and charging more than petrol for it, they would have become a laughing stock!!.

BUT the one thing that we never ever had on our table in the sixties

" Elbows or Phones"
