This month has been a crazy month, with language Camp, meeting the new exchange students and even a quite bad knee infection. At the start of September we had a camp with all the new exchange students. It was quite nice, being able to spend a week with the people who I would spend my final months with. We attended a German course in a gorgeous town called Lindenburg. We had classes like a normal school & after the classes we participated in multiple activities, whilst getting to know each either. After meeting them, we decided to plan a big meetup with three districts in Ulm, as a way to get to know everyone even more. After the language camp we went back to school, but on Thursday I had a stomach ache and I stayed home from school. Then on Sunday night I woke up in pain, the next day I went to the doctor's. Turns out I have a rather bad knee infection which has kept me at home and unable to walk properly for just under a week. Overall this month has been pretty great, apart from this knee infection. I am currently with a new family for 3 weeks, it's a temporary family will my house mother goes away to a three week camp. Thank you all so much for this amazing year, Chyna!
(Excuse the length, with the moving houses and other things I was unable to find a laptop to write this up on)
The District Governor's Role & Responsibilities District governors provide leadership, motivation, and guidance to Rotary clubs under the general supervision of the RI Board of Directors. Governors act as officers of RI, fostering achievement in their district at the club level. Under the District Leadership Plan, district governors prepare for and execute their duties over a three-year period. Districts nominate governors 24-36 months before the governors take office. Governors-nominee are elected at the RI Convention and serve as governors-elect for 12 months prior to taking office. Responsibilities During the 12-24 months prior to taking office, governors-nominee Analyze the district's strengths and weaknesses Review the district's organization and club administrative framework (club leadership plan) Attend district meetings and participate in district committees Select a site for the district conference During the 12 months prior to taking office, governors-elect: Set annual district goals Conduct district meetings, including the district team training seminar, presidents-elect training seminar, and district assembly Plan the district conference During their term of service, governors: Strengthen existing Rotary clubs, organize new clubs, and promote membership growth Issue a monthly letter to each club president and secretary in the district Support The Rotary Foundation and serve as a district and RI spokesperson, when appropriate Hold a district conference and other district meetings Ensure that district nominations and elections are conducted in accordance with the RI Constitution and Bylaws and established policies of RI Visiting clubs Each year, governors visit every Rotary club in the district to draw attention to important Rotary issues and provide special attention to weak or struggling clubs. The purpose of these visits is also to motivate Rotarians to participate in service activities and to personally recognize the outstanding contributions of Rotarians in the district. Visits may be conducted individually or with several clubs at the same time.

Bruce Paull was elected President and Peter Wells Secretary. President Bruce started the year with a few targets; 1. To Expose Rotary as much as possible to our community. 2. To increase numbers within our Club. 3. To install a town clock for the benefit of the community in general. 4. To continue the ongoing fund raising programs that were previously in place. He was also pleased to report that most of these goals were achieved in his Rotary year and he was hopeful the one that wasn’t, will be in years to come. That being the installation of the town clock. This year also saw the successful running of our major fundraiser, the Blue Rock Classic Marathon Relay. This event was and still is a win – win program for Rotary and the people of the Latrobe Valley. Another event that requires mentioning was our Group Exchange from the USA with our Bushfire Appeal fund-raising trip to Walhalla. The visit started with a magnificent ride on the Gold Field’s railway from the Thompson Bridge into Walhalla. The tour through the Long Tunnel Mine and the great BBQ I am sure, the group from U.S.A. found it interesting, they did indicate that they had a great weekend with their host families and the social events organised by the Club.
New Generations . The introduction of a new committee in our Club to be solely focused on youth affairs. Steve Micah reported: Our first efforts were to initiate a schools garden program for ten primary schools. Shrubs, ground covers and small native trees were planted with guards and stakes provided where required. This proved to be a great P.R. exercise for Rotary and opened channels for further activities. School children undertook the planting thereby cementing skills and pride in their school grounds. A trip to Blue Rock Dam for ten socially disadvantaged boys from Albert Street School was sponsored. Following a discussion with Moe and District School Principals, the Moe Junior Council was resurrected. The District RYLA camp was held at Rawson Resort, our Club sponsored Jarrod Whittaker. Two students from Lowanna College attended the District RYPEN Program.
Blue Rock Classic. At the Blue Rock Classic Committee AGM, Tony Dell was installed as President, Pat Puddy as Secretary and Jan Cox as Treasurer. In all 105 teams participated in the event, a number slightly down on the previous year. This past year was the first where APP Corporation Pty Ltd handled the marketing and sponsorship of the event, the results were somewhat disappointing, only two or three sponsors were brought in by A.P.P.The end result was $3383 profit.
Vocational Service. Twelve Pride of Workmanship Awards were presented to outstanding students in our immediate area. The John Dwyer Citizenship was awarded to Dale Mesaric from Lowanna College. Once again the John Flynn Scholarship holder, Simon Marshman returned from Alice Springs in January this year. He attended Rotary nights where possible and once again attended medical practices, expanding his knowledge, whilst in the area.
Community Service . A great deal of work has been done on the footway that will lead from Botanical Gardens to the Rail Trail Bridge. Many metres (truck loads) of clean fill was required to form the ramp before it was shaped by an excavator. Many community BBQ’s were conducted over the year. November 20th saw our first eight inductees successfully complete the food handling course and receive accreditation to conduct barbecues. Further work at the Gatehouse Gardens was carried out on the planter beds, clean up shrubs and dead trees, with more work on the sprinkler system. A Rotary Movie Night was conducted on the 2nd June followed by a champagne supper, 110 people attended, it was a great success.
International Service. The year began in July with the visit by chairman Len to the Port Vila Hospital in Vanuatu to finally find the box of books (well Margaret did that at the wharf storage area) and to present the hundreds of Ansell rubber products, towels and thermometers we donated to the hospital. These had taken some time to get together but in the end we succeeded. An International Trivia Night was held in the Hotel Bistro, this was attended by about 80 people. The International Committee has had a somewhat difficult year in other aspects as the international climate for exchange and travel has been one of the worst in history, in the past twelve months with the World Trade Centre terrorism on Sept. 11th, the Afghanistan War, the Bali Bombing, the Iraq War and the International concerns that were associated with those tragic events.
