Our land abounds in natures gifts,
Of beauty rich and rare,
In history's page, let every stage

In joyful strains then let us sing,
"Advance Australia Fair!"
FOUR WAY TEST
1.
Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Len’s Log 25

Wow! We have reached halfway of the Rotary year!

A great first half, a number of changes, some small some potentially large. We will press on to have a top half year where our major fund raiser, the Charity Golf Day and associated raffle will be on again. With changes in our committee I am sure the great tradition of this event with lots of teams and many sponsors will continue. Wendy Farmer is heading up the committee on the Golf Day and we need everyone’s support to make it happen BIG!

Our Christmas event is this coming Monday 19th and we are all asked to dress up “Christmassy”, but there will only be one Santa.

We break from the 19th December till 9th January when we resume at the Botanic Gardens for our usual partners and all start to 2017!

I want to take this time to thanks all Rotarians in the Rotary Club of Moe for a great first half. We have, in the second half of the Rotary year, the challenge of bringing to out club new members, and the need to think and implement new ideas for additional fund raising for club projects to succeed.

So have a safe and celebratory Christmas and look forward to a terrific New Year for 2017.

Stories
November is Rotary Foundation Month
November is Rotary Foundation Month
November is the month Rotary International dedicates to the programs and activities of the Rotary Foundation and this gives us a wonderful opportunity to focus our attention on the many great things that our foundation delivers to our world.
We take so much for granted as we enjoy our privileged life. Water streams from every one of the 16 or so taps in our houses, medical aid is just around the corner, a strong and active education system provides a future for all our children and with the exception of a few, we want for nothing. How different it is for one-third of the world’s population!

Including our efforts in the area of polio eradication, your Foundation provided something like $180 million last year to support clubs and districts in their efforts to ‘do good in the world’. If you add the money supplied by clubs and districts to complete these projects we would have a conservative spend of something like $450 million, so we are not a small, insignificant organization. We are a highly relevant significant group and we should never fail to make that point with our friends.

Nothing ever comes cheap and everything The Foundation does costs money. When the money runs out so does our ability to make a difference. Clubs can take the bull by the horns and agree to pay their TRF commitment now rather than wait until the traditional ‘rush’ period of June. We will get our money working sooner rather than later and that will help enormously. If all clubs in Australia could do this then The Foundation would be in a much stronger position.

We can also help as individuals. Those of us with Centurion commitments who aren’t tied into a scheduled payment plan could consider paying this month. It’s only $100 per person but collectively it has the power to do so much. Those of us who haven’t yet made the Centurion’ leap of faith’ might give the possibility a little extra thought. That extra$$1.92 a week can make such a difference to the people depending on us for a better life.
The Rotary Foundation is your own charity and I’m just asking you to be part of it.
Bruce Allen

Moe Rotary History
HISTORY OF THE ROTARY CLUB OF MOE
Year 1961-62
President   Ludy  Kelsen  wrote in his Annual Report –“ This Club has carried out many projects, some of reasonable magnitude but I would say our outstanding accomplishment would be the fellowship created amongst our members. This is borne out in the good attendance record of every member of  the Club. Without this fellowship we could never have achieved such success with our many projects”. The Club raised 260 pounds in October by means of a Jumble Sale. Two Paper Drives raised 40 pounds which was earmarked for the Benevolent Society and Retarded Children. Scholarships were awarded to the most worthy students from seven Moe Primary Schools and presented at a function held on the 11th December, with each bursary winner receiving 5 pounds 5 shillings. The Club continued its efforts to contact overseas Clubs and the hosting of Asian students for a weekend. During Foundation Week, International Committee members wrote to two Overseas Past Foundation Fellows each, asking what the year had done for them, five very informative replies were received. Membership 37 lost 3 Gained 4. Attendance  94.82%. Club won the attendance Trophy at Launceston.
