Our home is girt by sea,
Our land abounds in natures gifts,
Of beauty rich and rare,
In history's page, let every stage
Advance Australia Fair!
In joyful strains then let us sing,
"Advance Australia Fair!"
FOUR WAY TEST
1.
Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

All projects, scholars, and vocational training teams funded by global grants work toward specific goals in one or more of the Foundation’s six areas of focus:

DECEMBER
DISEASE PREVENTION AND TREATMENT MONTH
You can make a difference in this world by helping others in need — from supplying vaccine to protect a child from polio, to training Rotary Peace Fellows to build a more peaceful future.
For over 100 years, The Rotary Foundation has supported Rotarians’ work to find sustainable solutions to their communities’ most pressing needs. But we still have work to do. With your help, we can make lives better in your community and around the world.

Maureen’s Moments
#25
Hi all
What a great way to wind down for the year by having a casual night at Banjos Restaurant last Monday night.  It is always good to see members relaxed and enjoying each other’s company.
Our Christmas function is on again next Monday with Santa and his Elf arriving immediately after the meeting commences.  As a change and to add to the Christmas feel, members are encouraged to place a gift under the tree for their partner as well as any children attending. This will give Santa and his Elf extra work to do on the night and keep them out of trouble!
Please take note of the slight change of start time now being 6.30 for 6.45pm.  Hopefully, by the time this Bulletin has been sent, all members will have let Kishor know of numbers attending for the night.
As 2017 draws to a close and we race into 2018, I want to remind you of some of the social events that I have mentioned along the way.  The first event will be a bus trip to ‘Blue Gables Vineyard” on Sunday 11th February 2018. This winery is situated on the other side of the Glenmaggie Weir and is a located in a picturesque setting overlooking the Newry Flats in Eastern Gippsland.  Cheese boards, Antipasto Platters and wood fired pizzas will be available for purchase on the day as well as their lovely wine and of course beer on tap.  I am organising a 53 seater bus and cost of bus will be dependent on number of people coming.  I will provide more information next week.  The next big event is the Annual Table Tennis Tournament on Saturday 24th February.  I know there are many who are very keen to take home the perpetual trophy with their name engraved on it. So please mark these in your diary as both days should be a lot of fun.
Although both events occur in February, it has been difficult to fit everything in and both events are best held in the summer weather.
Later next week we have two more community events to attend.  On Thursday 21st will be the Woollies bbq and I will be send around a list for volunteers on Monday night.  Also on Friday 22nd will be the Carols by Candlelight to be held at the Racing Club.  More details will be provided on Monday.
See you all on Monday for our final catch-up for the year and don’t forget to wear something ‘Christmassy”

Stories
RJCA Presentation - Elizabeth Street PS
Last week we again witnessed an interesting program of presentations, this time from Year 6 students at Elizabeth Street PS. New principal, Ian Frost, along with long-time RJCA coordinator Carol O'Reilly and innumerable enthusiastic family members attended the evening to support the 10 students who completed this year's Rotary Junior Community Awards.
The youngsters are exposed to the 4 components of the award - skill development, physical activity, community service and social experience. On the night we heard presentations which addressed all 4 areas.
This week we heard from George, Kate, Shae, Sarah, Shalee, Skye, Jessica and Alex, and participants also provided the presentation for absentees Raymond and Anna.
The students informed us of their cooking, woodwork, Anzac Day and sporting experiences. Cooking capabilities ranged from "I'm terrible" to George's classic comment, when asked if he took his culinary delight home, "that it only got half way."
Robin was later heard to say that RJCA was fast becoming a real Club Project.

Information from Last Dinner Meeting.
The club welcomed back President Maureen and Alan back from their adventures in South America.
But as Alan announced, great things were still happening in the Valley during their absence....
Club Service -
  • Botanical Gardens Playground - Latrobe City has adopted our playground and hopefully the $320,000 project will be rubber stamped before Christmas. There will be small projects which our club can do, such as tree planting, spreading bark to 150 ml. etc, which could reduce the overall budget by approximately $20,000.Alan thanked Di Harrison for her presentation to Council.
  • Moe Cup Day - 4 starters in hand for car parking duties 11.00 am  - 2.00 pm.
  • Tree Plantings - still 4 trees left. Alan recorded members who were interested to assist.

Vocation - Robin acknowledged the great presentation by the Elizabeth street students. Despite 2 absentees, class-mates displayed their team spirit by delivering the "missing" reports for them.
Robin also stated that such was the school enthusiasm for the RJCA program, that current Year 5 children are already anticipating their involvement next year.

Programs - Len distributed Centurion kits to interested members. These plastic money containers hold 50 x $2 coins which is the amount for a Centurion's annual commitment to the Rotary Foundation. Len still has some kits so contact him if the idea appeals to you.
