Australians all let us rejoice,
For we are young and free,
We've golden soil and wealth for toil,
Our home is girt by sea,
Our land abounds in natures gifts,
Of beauty rich and rare,
In history's page, let every stage
Advance Australia Fair!
In joyful strains then let us sing,
"Advance Australia Fair!"
FOUR WAY TEST
1.
Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

‘Maureen’s Moments’
#40
Hi all
At last Monday night’s dinner meeting I had the great pleasure of inducting Bill Connell into the Rotary Club of Moe.  Bill has been attending our weekly meetings as well as some of our social activities for the past couple of months and after showing a great deal of interest in our Club we invited him to become a member.  Bill was quick to join in the banter of the evening at our fine session and also has volunteered to attend the Avenues of Service this weekend.  Congratulations and well done Bill.
PP Len provided details of his bbq and snooker night to be held next Monday. The Inner Wheel ladies have been invited to assist with catering as well as stay and enjoy fellowship for the evening.  I have also invited members of the Rotary Club of Trafalgar to join us.  It should be a fun night and the start of another annual social event for our club with yet another ‘striking’ trophy up for grabs.
Peter announced that the Avenues of Service is scheduled for Sunday 29th April.  At this stage we have five members attending which is a great effort.  If anyone else wishes to attend please contact Peter for further information.
Have a great weekend and see you all at Len’s place on Monday.

President Maureen

Stories
The Long Road From a Broken Heart
Guest speaker Jeremy Scott told his inspiring story last week at our club dinner.
As a youngster Jeremy had to be treated with kid gloves due t his hole in the heart condition. Team sports, in fact any physical involvements were virtually impossible until he had a radical procedure which was totally successful, and changed his life entirely.
After being impressed by the cycling feats of some of his peers while living in London, he thought that he too would have a significant cycling pursuit. In planning for his London to Auckland "pie in the sky" adventure, he broke the trip into 3 categories - Europe, South East Asia and outback Australia.
The overweight, unfit novice who started the journey in October 2011 was unrecognisable two and a half years later when he had cycled the last of his 52,000 kilometres, having travelled through 31 countries.
As well as raising funds for the Heart foundation en route, he overcame many personal fears, discovered untapped strengths and relished talking to locals at each destination.
One such person who inspired Jeremy was a man in Hanoi who explained that his brother had a similar complaint and it transpired that he was operated on by the same surgeon 2 years earlier. Sadly, this fellow did not survive to prosper and grow like Jeremy, but that conversation was the catalyst for him to face each successive adversity with confidence and resolve.
Since arriving home from Auckland Jeremy has become a public speaker and continues raising funds for his charity. But in reality, he really enjoys a simple life, relishing opportunities to spend time enjoying travel and nature.

You're only as Old as You feel
We read in last week's bulletin of Jeanne Louise Calment, who  had the longest confirmed human lifespan
on record: 122 years and 164 days.

In an interview shortly before she passed away, she made the following comments -
Being young is a state of mind; it doesn't depend on one's body.
I'm actually still a young girl - it's just that I haven't looked so god for the past 70 years.
I've only got one wrinkle and I'm sitting on it.I'm in love with wine.
Always keep your smile. That's how I explain my long life.
I see badly, i hear badly and I often feel bad, but everything's fine.
I have legs of iron, but to tell you the truth they're starting to rust and buckle a bit.
I took pleasure when I could,. I acted clearly and morally and without regret. I am very lucky.

At the end of one interview, in response to a journalist who said he hoped they would meet again, she replied, "Why not? You're not that old, so you'll probably still be here.
