Hi everyone!

After many weeks of preparation, another successful Gippsland Rotary Golf Classic was held on Monday 25th March. This is our major fundraiser for the year, which enables us to
continue to support Rotary projects and our local community. As always, a great team effort with Rotarians, family member and friends all pitching in to do whatever needed to be done to help make the day a wonderful event, including the Inner Wheel Club of Moe who help us each year with the serving of dinner. Sincere thanks to everyone who assisted in the lead-up and on the day.

I would also like to thank all the individual players and sponsors as this event couldn’t happen without them. We get so much support from businesses and organisations, from
within our local community and further afield and we are extremely grateful for their ongoing support.
While golf can be a serious business, there is always a lot of fun and laughter on the day, particularly during the post-game meal, competitions and auction. It was great to see everyone having such a good time and we hope to see everyone back again next year!

SAVE THE DATE

It is with great pleasure that we announce the date, time and place for the inaugural D9815 Changeover.

Saturday 29th June, 2024,
at Cardinia Cultural Centre,
40 Lakeside Boulevard, Pakenham
6:30pm for 7pm

This will be a memorable event as it will highlight the accomplishments of both Districts 9810 and 9820 as they join to form District 9815.

It will be a fabulous opportunity to meet and mingle with Rotarians from both Districts as we learn about each other and how we can work together in the coming years.

Booking and cost details will follow shortly. Put the date in your calendar and anticipate an exciting evening where you meet new friends and may hear of different project ideas for your Club.

An update on a Club project.

Robin made a presentation to the RJCA students at Albert Street Primary school about their program which starts in term 2.  Principal Monique Osborn and Welfare Officer Bek Harkensee had already both shown great enthusiasm for President Lyn’s Wheelchair for Kids project and are now supporting the idea of a school “Wheelathon” to raise money for chairs.  Building on this Rtn Robin invited the kids to identify what a chair should look like and then showed them the WFK chair.

He showed a video from a Melbourne school and discussed how a Wheelathon might work. The exciting part is the RJCA kids will be deeply involved in designing and running the day, as part of their RJCA project.   To our knowledge ASPS will be the first school in Gippsland to run a Wheelathon as part of their RJCA program.  It is President Lyn’s wish for this Club project to involve as many of the Club as possible, and there will be scope for the entire club to be there on the day and possibly be part of a BBQ fund raiser.

Pride in Workmanship Awards at
Old Gippstown at 6.30pm

PLEASE NOTE:  for 2024 we will be meeting at Moe Hotel (Leggies) in the function room.  The reason for this is that Moe RSL won't be open on Monday nights as their chef has left and they cannot accommodate us.

Hi Everyone,

Well, it’s nearly Christmas!

On Monday night we had our Pride of Workmanship Awards at Old Gippstown, Moe.  Twelve students from schools in the 3825 postcode area, were nominated by school leaders for the Award. Also presented was the John Dwyer Award which recognizes attributes of leadership and citizenship. Two students from Lowanna College were recognized for this special Award: Stephanie Nowell and Lachlan Wallace. Congratulation to both of them. I would like to thank Roger Taylor, Chairman of Youth/Vocational committee, and Maureen Bishop, for making it such a successful night.

I would also like to thank the Rotarians who catered for the event and also to the helpers on the night: Alan Bishop, Ross Maxfield, Julian Yeatman, Len Cairns, Di Harrison, Helen MacDonald, Diane Wilkinson, as well as Kate Noakes.

Thank you also to Robin Noakes for showing off the wonderful wheelchair to promote my President’s Project, ‘Wheelchairs for Kids’, and to Rog for plugging our club and seeking interested members.

On Monday 11th December we have our Christmas breakup at the Newborough Bowling Club. Be there by 6.30pm so you can pay for your meals at the bar counter. Santa will be arriving right on 7.00pm so make sure you are ready and seated. If you wish, please wear the colours of Christmas. Partners and children are warmly welcomed to attend. If you want to, bring a present along for your partner/children and place under the Christmas tree.

We will be returning in the new year on January 15thfor our usual BBQ in the Botanic Gardens, Moe starting at 6.00pm. BYO chair and drinks. Meat and salad will be supplied.

Well, this is my last bulletin for 2023 and I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year.

That’s all for now.

President Lyn

Pride of Workmanship Night

Congratulations to the 'Pride of Workmanship' recipients who were recently presented with a framed certificate and a $50 cash voucher.
They were nominated by teaching staff from their respective schools for their willingness to participate, support for others, positive attitudes, and leadership qualities. All-important attributes that will lead to future success...

The John Dwyer Citizenship Award was also presented at the same event. Congratulations to Stephanie Nowell and Lachlan Wallace who were nominated by Lowanna College leadership for the award and each received a $200 voucher from the Rotary Club of Moe.

Thank you to family members and teaching staff who also attended the evening. Very proud moments for all concerned.

Another event which highlights one of our Rotary Youth programs organised by Youth/Vocation Chair, Rog Taylor and supported by committee member, Maureen Bishop. Like your work!

Thanks also to my fellow Rotary Club of Moe Rotarians who catered for the event.
Pictured below are the twelve wonderful students who were acknowledged at an event held at Old Gippstown, Moe on Monday night, together with President Lyn Cassar and Chair, Rog Taylor; happy Rotarians; and John Dwyer Award recipients: Steph Nowell and Lachlan Wallace with Di Harrison.
Bali School Toilet Redevelopment Project

Work is really progressing on the redevelopment of the toilets at the Banyuning school in Bali, as can be seen from the photos below.  This project is being undertaken to enable the expansion of classrooms at the school to accommodate increasing numbers of students.   PP Michael Koch and former Moe Rotarian Neil McCluskey recently visited Bali to check out the work being undertaken.  Total cost of this project is expected to be $6000.   We have been successful in having a $2000 District Grant approved, with $2000 to be provided from Club funds and the remaining to be made up of donations to support this project and other activities at the school.

We have received over $5000 in donations to date which will enable us to complete the toilet redevelopment and use the additional funds to purchase new uniforms for the students.    Much of this fundraising is the result of Michael’s hard work in promoting the project through his contacts.
