Di's Dialogue # 39
Thank you Len Cairns for sharing the sad news that Mr James (Jim) McAllister passed away at the Latrobe Valley Village on Saturday. Jim was a Past President of the Rotary Club of Moe in 1976-77 and received a Paul Harris Award in 1988. Len advised he was our Santa for many Christmas celebrations and both he and his wife, Elsa, together with John Hutchison, ran our Melbourne Cup sweeps for years. He was a much-respected member of the Moe-Newborough community and was a life Member of the Latrobe Valley Village and long-serving Board member. Jim's funeral has been organised by Latrobe Valley Funeral Service and will be held at 11.00am on Thursday 20 May.
Last week our club met at the Moe Hotel for a review of the Golf Fundraising Event held in late March. Roger Taylor chaired the evening and he appreciated the constructive feedback received from members. Roger was thanked for his hard work, diligence and at times, doggedness, in organising the event, together with his committee, mainly Maureen and Alan Bishop, with other Rotarians assisting as required. The Golf Day and Major Raffle raised $21,000.00. A huge effort!!
It is highly appropriate I include one of favourite Rog's favourite quotes: "Proper Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance'' , which is clearly the secret of success for the wonderful golf day and raffle results on the tail-end of COVID restrictions being lifted.
Thank you to Len Cairns for being the Rotary Club of Moe's contact person and participant at the first Youth Mental Health First Aid session held on Sunday at the Moe Hotel. The second session will be run at the Yallourn Golf Club due to power outages scheduled for Sunday 30 May in the Moe CBD area.
As you will all realise by now, the walk around Lake Kernot on Sunday was cancelled due to a bleak weather forecast. I do hope we manage to have another interclub activity with Morwell and Traralgon Central Rotarians!
This week is the Board meeting held via Zoom, commencing at 7.00pm, with a Club Assembly scheduled for the following Monday (May 24 at 6.00pm for 6.30pm start).
Take care everyone and stay safe wherever you are. Enjoy your leave of absence Bruce and we'll see you again in 5 months!!
President Di
{N.B. Board members will receive a Zoom invitation for this Monday 17 May meeting, usual time from 7pm}
The International & Foundation Committee has a fundraising project on the go for End Polio Now - the purple flower project, consisting of packs of crocus and dutch iris bulbs.
Thanks to everyone who has supported our project so far.
We have sold all our crocus supplies, but we still have quite a number of dutch iris packs for sale at $5 for 4 bulbs.
If you, your friends and/or family would like to buy some bulbs to support this project and bright up your garden for Spring, please let me know.
