Maureen’s Moments

Hi all
Last Monday’s program was chaired by Diane Wilkinson who delivered an excellent presentation on Membership.
The presentation outlined the goals that our club will be aiming for during the 2017-18 Rotary year including increasing our membership by making our club more effective. It highlighted the need to engage with the Community and organisations when conducting our projects and activities and to conduct interesting and engaging meetings. During the presentation we launched the updated ‘Women in Rotary’ brochure, the new Information brochure and the Member Process booklet. Members were also presented with personalised Rotary business cards and a Member Satisfaction Survey.
I would like to encourage all members to carry the brochures and business cards with you to hand out to your networks and to complete and return the Members Satisfaction Survey form at next Monday’s meeting.
Next Monday we will be welcoming District Governor, Don Ripper, his wife Jude and Assistant Governor Carol Crewe to our meeting. Don and Carol will meet with the Board at 5.00 pm and then join us for dinner. I have rearranged the schedule and menu for the night to suit Don’s visit. At 6.40pm we will be having the main meal served and also dealing with the normal introductions and guests. Then from 7.00 pm onwards, Don will be chairing the evening to share with us all the news of the District and Rotary International and Jude will present a report on her Partner’s project.
It would be great to see as many members as possible attend this very important evening.
Enjoy your week everyone and see you all on Monday
I am sure I speak on behalf of Rog as the Bulletin Editor, but can I remind the Club members that we, as Bulletin editors, are always on the look out for items for inclusion into the weekly Bulletin. Please forward any items you may want to include to Rog or myself, and we can look to include in coming editions.
All Chairs, as part of your respective Service committees, also have direct access privileges to the Bulletin and group emails on the Clubrunner program, to broadcast minutes, agendas, newsworthy reports etc, so the Club can be brought up to speed with whats happening within your portfolio. I know some members already use this as means to broadcast pressing matters. Please help the editor to share your information.
John Verhoeven was President and Neil McCluskey Secretary. A highlight of the year was the establishment of the Inner Wheel Club of Moe in December with Pat Puddy as the Inaugural President. Community Service led by Dennis Bodak was involved in a variety of activities supporting the community. Once again underprivileged students were taken by bus to the Royal Show, while a bus to Darnum Musical Village for the LV Nursing Home Residents and Carers, was well received. Club members conducted sausage sizzles at Carols by Candlelight and the Gippsland Latrobe Valley Grand Final. The Club took a larger role in running the Blue Rock Classic, setting up the Horse Course and supervising the various check points under the guidance of Ian Needham. Major credits were due to Ed Achorn for the computer system of results and Bryon Puddy for his work on entries. A donation of $2,000 was made to the Moe Conference of St. Vincent de Paul for their Mobile Soup Van. A Children’s Memorial at Moe Cemetery was funded by the Club. A Night Out for Rotarians and friends at Gippsland Heritage Park was a great fellowship night for club members.
The International Committee led by George Ballard sponsored Greg Gebhard who was selected for the 9820 team to visit California, Nevada. Substantial funds were raised by catering for District Youth Exchange Camps at Delhuntie Park with Steve Micah’s hand work and organizational skill playing a major role in the success of this activity.
Vocational Service headed by Graham Norton-old arranged interesting vocational tours of Micah’s Mill at Erica and the New Lowanna Secondary College. Tamara Jones was successfully nominated to attend the Rio Tinto Youth Science Forum in Canberra. Jo Ormord of Lowanna College received the John Dwyer Award with President John making the actual Presentation at the College’s Presentation Night, while local teacher, Ms Elizabeth Acreman, was sponsored to attend The Peer Support Foundation Seminar. Pride of Workmanship Awards were again presented to the students in all local schools.
