ADVANCE AUSTRALIA FAIR
Australians all let us rejoice,
For we are young and free,
We've golden soil and wealth for toil,
Our home is girt by sea,
Our land abounds in natures gifts,
Of beauty rich and rare,
In history's page, let every stage
Advance Australia Fair!
In joyful strains then let us sing,
"Advance Australia Fair!"
FOUR WAY TEST
1.
Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Stories
MUNA Canberra 17-19 Aug
Fifty-four students participated in the 22nd Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) held in chilly Canberra over the weekend of 17-19 August.
The winners of the District 9820 MUNA competition, Yebin Yang (St Margaret's, Berwick), and Max Walton-Briggs (Berwick Grammar), performed extremely well and were awarded the Totenhofer Peace Prize. They represented South Korea and developed responses to six resolutions according to the views of the South Korean government. The resolutions focused on world peace, environmental issues and human rights. I thank the Chair of MUNA, District 9820, John Caruana, for inviting me to act as counsellor during the weekend. It was great to see so many young people debating important global issues in the House of Representatives in Old Parliament House.

New September Sergeants
Please have a gold coin donation handy to encourage our September Sergeants, Lyn Cassar and Helen Morrison to help take charge of the meetings in September. Please support them to raise plenty of funds during fine time for RI, by dishing the dirt on members goings on during September. Many thanks to Len Cairns and John Hutchison for entertaining  us through August
Radio Rotary
Greetings Rotarians!  My name is Tim Acton, I am a member of Rotary Club of Mount Eliza and am also a volunteer presenter
on Peninsula Radio RPP  FM98.7 Peninsula and FM98.3 Frankston.

Recently I persuaded the RPP station management that there ought to be a program at a regular time each week during which
not-for-profit community events in our area could be brought to listeners'  attention - at no cost to the organisers.

"Out and About with Laya and Tim" is the result -  on air from 9.00am until 10.00am every Tues. Laya looks after the technical operations
and the music that intersperses my description of 8-10 events or  activities being held on the Peninsula or in the Frankston area within
 two weeks of each program.

Whilst all community organisations are welcome to have their events publicised, I am a little biased and District 9820 Rotary clubs' projects
do tend to get high priority (and not just Mount Eliza's!).  BUT it is up to each Rotary club to provide me with details of their upcoming events
-  art exhibitions, car rallies, charity golf days, concerts etc etc.  I will then try to include each one and to enthuse local folk to attend.

My email address is timacton@bigpond.com and my mobile no is 0418 310727.  I look forward greatly to hearing from you.
Cheers Tim

AN URGENT APPEAL FROM ROTARIAN ROBIN NOAKES,
Chair, Vocational and Youth Committee
Hi Fellow Moe Rotarians,

Please review your thoughts on nominations for Rotary Youth Leadership Award program, on the weekend of October 19 - 21.

Nominations close on 31 Aug and we are being asked to respond by District organisers ASAP.

Precis as follows

RYLA is a three day residential high energy program for young leaders aged of 18 and 25
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards program includes thought provoking plenaries, discussion moderators, and professional facilitators from many disciplines. Discussions and experiential sessions focus on what leadership is, qualities of leadership, team-building activities, time and stress management.
Graduates of previous RYLA programs report the course was fantastic opportunity to develop their skills, have fun, and meet an enthusiastic group of like-minded people. RYLA is a life changing experience, so take the challenge and apply today.

SO FAR WE HAVE NO NOMINATIONS FROM OUR CLUB membership.
Please contact me ASAP if you have any prospective nominees.
thanks Robin

Our webmaster Bryon Puddy has invested much time into ensuring our website is impeccably maintained and presented, It is busting with local and international news. He can tell how many folks have visited the site so feel free to share the address with potential new members, or visit it yourself, if you havent been there in a while (  Visit www.moerotary.org )
Last Week's Meeting/Next Week's Meeting
Last Week -
As our numbers were predicted to be well down during the month of September, due to members' travel and a variety of other circumstances, it was agreed that we would try different meeting structures during this period.
To that end, we met last week at our usual venue, the Moe RSL, but in Banjo's Restaurant rather than the Function Room.
This proved to be a fine alternative for our 9 members in attendance, and 2 guests (thanks for coming David Morrison and Kate Noakes). We enjoyed welcoming Hutchy back after his Caribbean escapade, and the informal arrangements allowed us all to have a pleasant evening of fellowship.

Next Week -
Again a different setting - we will visit Gippsland Rotary Centenary House where manager (and past Assistant Governor) Carol Crewe will meet us at 6.30 for a 30 minute presentation which will include an explanation of the forthcoming Stage 3 development followed by a tour of the facility.
Those wishing to attend will need to be at GRCH by 6.20 as our timeframe only permits us to stay for 30 minutes, as we will then leave for Love Pizza and Pasta (Hoyle St Morwell, between Princes Hwy and Buckley Streets) for dinner.
I will notify numbers to them Monday morning, and reservation of our table will be from 7.15.
NB: Because I will be an apology, I will require names no later than Sunday night, and will assume that visitors to Centenary House will also be eating together, unless otherwise informed.
I already have acceptances from President Peter, Alan S, Lyn, Helen M, John H, Dave W and Bryon.

Eating in the 60's

(Paddy has taken a break for a few weeks, so we have some other ideas to fill up some page)

EATING IN THE SIXTIES

Pasta was not eaten in Australia or N.Z.

Curry was a surname.

A takeaway was a mathematical problem.

A pizza was something to do with a leaning tower.

All potato crisps were plain; the only choice we had was
whether to put the salt on or not.

Rice was only eaten as a milk pudding.

Calamari was called squid and we used it as fish bait.

A Big Mac was what we wore when it was raining.

Brown bread was something only poor people ate.

Oil was for lubricating, fat was for cooking.

Tea was made in a teapot using tea leaves and never green.

Sugar enjoyed a good press in those days, and was regarded
as being white gold. Cubed sugar was regarded as posh.

Fish didn't have fingers in those days.

Eating raw fish was called poverty, not sushi.

None of us had ever heard of yoghurt.

Healthy food consisted of anything edible.

People who didn't peel potatoes were regarded as lazy.

Indian restaurants were only found in India.

Cooking outside was called camping.

Seaweed was not a recognised food.

"Kebab" was not even a word, never mind a food.

Prunes were medicinal.

Surprisingly, muesli was readily available, it was called
cattle feed.

Water came out of the tap.
If someone had suggested bottling it and charging more than petrol for it, they would have become a laughing stock!!.

BUT the one thing that we never ever had on our table in the sixties

" Elbows or Phones"
