Di’s Dialogue #82
What a busy night we had at the Moe RSL on Monday evening! It was a special night as we had two guests who are interested in Rotary: Abigail Brown and Sandy Augur. Both were impressed with what Rotary does for our community.
We also had two guest speakers: Wendy Gibson and Luana Brock, (Life Skills Victoria), who spoke about their pre-accredited programs which aim to provide opportunities for students to gain the educational capacity and core skills they need for study, work, and life. A key message delivered during their presentation was the focus on preparing students for the change from ‘disability service engagement’ to community engagement.
Many thanks to Moe Rotarians for supporting the ‘We Can Do Better’ food can collection initiative. Bill Connell has volunteered to organise the roster for each Thursday in June at Woolworths from 10.00am-4.00pm. Collected food cans will be distributed through the Gippsland Community Church Care Food Relief program. The opportunity for Life Skills Victoria students to work with Rotarians in the food can collection initiative is a terrific outcome!
Rotary International has a commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. As Rotarians, we understand that cultivating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture is essential to realising the vision of a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change.
Guest speakers, Luana and Wendy also promoted the ‘Looking for Alice’ stage production to be performed at the Moe Town Hall on Friday 20 May, starting at 6.30pm. If you are interested in attending, please let me know and I will organise tickets. At this stage I do not know what the cost will be, but I do know it will be a fun night!
Maureen Bishop presented a report on the club’s major fundraising activity, the Gippsland Rotary Golf Classic and Major Raffle, to members and guests. An amazing result has been achieved by the Golf committee, supported by businesses and keen golfers, as well as Moe Rotarians, with over $22,000.00 being raised.
Diane Wilkinson provided a report about the work of
The Rotary Foundation, which was well-received and from our guest’s perspective, provided an insight into the important work of Rotary, locally and internationally.
Many thanks to Jamie Hunt for running the Zoom component of the meeting under the guidance of Robin Noakes. Robin will be heading off overseas in a couple of weeks. Peter Kingsbury has already flown to the Northern Hemisphere, and I believe he will be away for 3 months.
Lastly, Monday night (3rd Monday of the month) will be a Board meeting. A zoom link will be sent to Board members on Sunday evening.
Enjoy the Easter break and stay safe everyone.
