Our home is girt by sea,
Our land abounds in natures gifts,
Of beauty rich and rare,
In history's page, let every stage
Advance Australia Fair!
In joyful strains then let us sing,
"Advance Australia Fair!"
FOUR WAY TEST
1.
Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Len’s Log 16

Another busy week as we head into our first Saturday (15th October) in Moore Street for our Rotary Club of Moe Awareness and Marigolds Project.

We will have a strong team present (thanks to all those who have volunteered) with our BBQ set up for a Sausage Sizzle and our Marigold Punnets ready for any takers for a gold coin.

Our town this week has the Moe Cup, with many Rotarians involved in supervising the Parking and possibly doing some betting!

A big sale in the shops with the Moe Traders going strong and then our efforts on Saturday morning in the middle of town.

Our Bali Group through Nathan Harding’s International Committee is off early November and we are raising funds for the new boys’ urinals at the school to replace old and broken toilets. We are also trying to arrange to have one of the girl students assessed for a diagnosis of what might be done for her disability in the future if there is any possibility of treatment.

Later this month we will be having our first Breakfast informal recruitment opportunity meeting at Turn Back Time Café in Moe (at the railway end of Shaw’s arcade). This will be on Wednesday 26th October at 7.30 am till 8.30 am.

Stories
The Harding's Abroad
The Hardings take the United States by Storm.
We were very grateful to Nathan Harding who stepped in at the last minute (due to the unavailability of guest speaker Rod Day from the Moe Fire Brigade) to present an update of the family adventures this past month.

After 4 amazing days in san Francisco, touring famous houses from US sitcoms and dare-devil driving through SFC’s famed hilly streets, the family headed off to celebrate Diana’s friend’s wedding. This allowed them to enjoy a couple of weeks kicking basck around the pool and catching their breath before continuing on their lampoon’s vacation, visiting some interesting, out-of-the-way towns.

Key highlights included beautiful L:ake Tahoe, the breath-taking rock mountains of Yosemite, with another amazing national parl at Sequoia, where the redwoods were absolutely massive.

No family USA holiday is complete without a visit to the theme parks, and Nathan and Co. visited all three – Disneyland, California Adventure Park and Universal Studios, where Nathan was the biggest kid of all, taking all the rides including the roller coaster 3 times. To round off a wonderful time, trips to Vegas, the Grand Canyon, San Diego and Venice Beach ensured that the next vacation will probably be somewhere in the Latrobe Valley.

Footnote: We will contact Rod Day and arrange an alternative program slot for him.

Ross' Joke of the Week

AGE IS A WONDERFUL THING -

 ROMANCE:

An older couple were lying in bed one night. The husband was falling asleep but the wife was in a romantic mood and wanted to talk.

She said: "You used to hold my hand when we were courting."

Wearily he reached across, held her hand for a second and tried to get back to sleep.

A few moments later she said: "Then you used to kiss me."

Mildly irritated, he reached across, gave her a peck on the cheek and settled down to sleep.

Thirty seconds later she said: "Then you used to bite my neck."

Angrily, he threw back the bed clothes and got out of bed.

"Where are you going?" she asked.

"To get my teeth!"

Operation Flinders Camp 3
Camp 3 camp back  recently from the Flinders Ranges.  This was a team made up of half FLO kids and half Lowanna College.  It was a great success and didn’t burn out the staff from the Valley either.  Like the first camp we also had a member of Victoria Police attend this one, and since then the police have  asked if they can send a member on each camp, as the benefits across the board are so good for community relations.  We and FLO have no problem with this of course.

Like camp 2, we again had 3 participants that were recommended for Peer Group Mentor training, and like for those 3 ENGIE will provide funding to pay for their flights to and from Adelaide on the expected 3 weekend training events they will require to complete before being capable of taking on a PGM role with another team (one not from the Valley).

As an aside, the 2 FLO staff members that went on the first camp have both now landed jobs as assistant principals and have left the FLO, much to Brett Pedlow’s dismay.  Luke Haustorfer is at Moe's South Street Primary School, and Dale Banks went to Fish Creek Primary School, and I’m sure such solid male role models in our primary schools will go well.

Best regards,

Simon Klapish

Aussie No-Hopers:
 Last One:
"When my husband and I arrived at a car dealer to pick up our car, we were told the keys had been locked in it. We went to the service department and found a mechanic working feverishly to unlock the driver's side door. As I watched from the passenger side, I instinctively tried the door handle and discovered that it was unlocked. 'Hey,' I announced to the technician, 'it's open !'
His reply, 'I know - I already done that side.'
