In joyful strains then let us sing,

FOUR WAY TEST
1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

In Westminster Cathedral, sits the Stone of Destiny.
Souvenired by the English from Scone Castle, it has symbolically crowned the kings of Scotland since the mists of time.
Our destiny is finite and of our own making. We try and push back the halo of ignorance, in the hope that Knowledge and Wisdom will lead us on the right path, through green pastures and still waters.
We hope that whatever the mystery that lies in wait for us, we will be treated kindly by the fates. The Greeks thought the fates were 3 women, one spinning the thread, one weaving it into the fabric of life, and one cutting it.
And so we give back more than life has given to us. This is part of a philosophy was probably imprinted by our parent, or if luck will have it, a mentor.
I come this way but once.... for I may never pass this way again. Make the most of the gifts life has given us.
It is not the cards you hold in your hand, but how you play them.
Not everyone has a winning hand. Be gracious in defeat, and mercyful and humble in victory.
Be fulfilled by the things you do for yourself and for others.
Life can be challenging at times, accept the challenges.
Do your best and never give into revenge or pettiness.
Be of good courage, and do not give in to sham and drudgery, for it is a beautiful world. You just have to find it, even though it sometimes looks like a weed.
This is the end of my year, and there is only one task I have left, and it is to thank you, one and all, for the roles you have played in this Rotary year.
You have been an inspiration to your fellow Rotarians, and to the community at large. We are nothing but drops of water in the great big ocean of life, but some of them sparkle; ... some of them sparkle.
2018 Drought Relief Fund for Australian Farmers (RARF)
In Australia, farmers are the lifeblood of our country and they are in crisis.
Record breaking heat and lack of rain means farmers are struggling to feed sheep and cattle, and keep crops alive.
Families on the land are suffering and they need our help.
Channel 9 and Rotary Australia have partnered with the National Farmers Federation, launching an appeal to big business and everyday Australians, so we can provide some emergency relief.
100% of donations goes to the farmers and is tax deductible via Rotary and Rotary Australia World Community Service. Every dollar counts.

RI President Barry Rassin says he learned more about leadership from Rotary than he did pursuing his MBA – or even as president of the hospital he ran for years. “It takes more skill to lead volunteers,” he insists. “It’s harder than leading employees.” Rotary also gave Rassin the opportunity to practice public speaking. “When I started in Rotary, I couldn’t make a speech to save my life,” he says – a remarkable admission from a man who is clearly comfortable addressing large crowds today.

Last Week - As our numbers were predicted to be well down during the month of September, due to members' travel and a variety of other circumstances, it was agreed that we would try different meeting structures during this period.
To that end, we met last week at our usual venue, the Moe RSL, but in Banjo's Restaurant rather than the Function Room. This proved to be a fine alternative for our 9 members in attendance, and 2 guests (thanks for coming David Morrison and Kate Noakes). We enjoyed welcoming Hutchy back after his Caribbean escapade, and the informal arrangements allowed us all to have a pleasant evening of fellowship.
Next Week - Again a different setting - we will visit Gippsland Rotary Centenary House where manager (and past Assistant Governor) Carol Crewe will meet us at 6.30 for a 30 minute presentation which will include an explanation of the forthcoming Stage 3 development followed by a tour of the facility. Those wishing to attend will need to be at GRCH by 6.20 as our timeframe only permits us to stay for 30 minutes, as we will then leave for Love Pizza and Pasta (Hoyle St Morwell, between Princes Hwy and Buckley Streets) for dinner. I will notify numbers to them Monday morning, and reservation of our table will be from 7.15. NB: Because I will be an apology, I will require names no later than Sunday night, and will assume that visitors to Centenary House will also be eating together, unless otherwise informed. I already have acceptances from President Peter, Alan S, Lyn, Helen M, John H, Dave W and Bryon.
