Another week has flown by!
Many thanks to Gareth Pollard for his presentation on Monday night and bringing us all up to speed regarding cardiac resuscitation.
My key takeaways from the presentation:
1. Doing mouth-to-mouth breathing is no longer a necessity.
2. Chest compression to keep blood circulating is important.
3. ‘Stayin Alive’ is still the best song to keep in rhythm when doing chest compression.
4. I can be a GoodSAM Responder by downloading the GoodSAM app.
5. I need a list with medications and medical history handy for paramedics to access.
We had twenty Rotarians online for the session and I thank Roger Taylor for his willingness to chair that part of the meeting. With Gareth’s permission, the ‘Call Push Shock’ power point has been emailed to all members.
This coming Monday is a Board meeting. Thank you Robin Noakes for taking on the responsibility for providing Zoom links to Board members. The meeting will start at 7.00pm. Thank you also to Secretary Maureen for sending out the agenda and minutes.
The third Monday of the month will be an important meeting as we will have our District Governor online with us. Bill Degnan is looking forward to visiting our club. Usually, the evening is set aside for whatever the DG would like to talk about with members, so we may not have time for Chairs to report back to the club post Board meeting.
On that same night, I am hoping we can all come along wearing a hat in support of ‘Lift the Lid on Mental Health’ which is an Australian Rotary Health National annual fundraising event. Sargeant Barry will run a focused fine session to raise funds for mental health. So, start planning what you will wear and be prepared to pay some friendly fines. There could even be some Level 3 fines!
Also, please continue to reach out to fellow Rotarians who might need a friendly chat to brighten their day. We may not be able to engage in Rotary community-based activities but we can still engage in fellowship.
In closing, the COVID-19 statistics in both Latrobe City and Baw Baw Shire are still rising but so are the vaccination rates.
Please stay safe everyone and take care when out-and-about.
