Apologies for no President's message last week. Friday and Saturday were very busy days
and I ran out of time (and puff)!
We have had a busy week with BBQs with club members working hard at a range of
Community events this week and it continues into next week as well.
Last week, on Sunday, we cooked and sold Bacon and Egg sandwiches at the Father's Day
car show at Old Gippsland. Co-President Alan Bishop, just back from his trip with Secretary
Maureen to Ireland and the UK, turned up to cook hundreds of Eggs with Ross Maxfied on
the bacon side (sorry for the pun!), ably assisted by Helen Morrison, Len Cairns and Robin
Noakes as we sold out of supplies in a couple of hours.
This week, our team of Alan Bishop, Robin Noakes, Ross Maxfield and Len Cairns (on
Thursday 11th) were at the Yallourn Power Station car park at 5 am (yes you read correctly!)
to cook and distribute Bacon and Egg breakfast sandwiches for R U OK day sponsored by
Energy Australia. We all needed some sleep after that effort.
At the end of this week (Saturday 13th), our intrepid team (with additional member
support), will be cooking Hamburgers at the Trafalgar Football Club hosting of the local
Grand Final. Alan and Maureen Bishop, Helen and David Morrison, with Diane Wilkinson,
and once again Community Services Chair Ross Maxfield will be on deck. They are working
on a long day event side by side with our Morwell Rotary Club colleagues doing sausages
and both clubs are using our Coolroom trailer to keep supplies fresh and safe. Great
collaboration.
The next week. on 20th September, we will also be cooking at lunch time at the High Street
Moe Community Hub for our sponsored Rotary Children's Art collaborative event. The team
for this event is Ross Maxfield, Robin Noakes, Len Cairns, Helen Morrison and Diane
Wilkinson.
These events are important for our club, they have us being engaged in the community with
hundreds of people, they give us visibility as a service club and they help raise some funds
which enable us to function and be active in our community.
Great work Rotarians!
President Len
