At our last regular meeting with me as El Presidente we enjoyed a most interesting presentation from Sarah Cumming, Managing Director of Gippsland Water. It was fascinating to learn how Gippsland Water has side businesses, other than water, which use waste water to create biomass products, which are sold and raise revenue to help keep the cost of water down. The numbers were impressive.
With responsibility for 5000 sq Kilometers of land and $1.6B in assets, Sarah talked about the need to work closely with other environmental agencies, and seek opportunities to expand the waste stream and also produce energy from waste.
Barry Dunstan was able to report that the first sausages have been cooked on the new BBQ. They were much enjoyed by the work team of Barry, Alan B, Ross and myself. The BBQ is now in service and the Latrobe City Council have been advised accordingly. As part of our regular cleaning of the Adventure playground and area we should keep a close eye on it.

Many members had caught up with the news that Norma Hutchinson had a nasty fall and broke her femur during her 2 week spell in respite care in Rosebud. Both Norma and John were badly shaken by the experience and following her major surgery Norma faces 4 to 8 weeks of Rehab. Their family have rallied round and are helping resolve their long term plans for care and accommodation. I was grateful to Sarah Cumming for pressing the Random Number Generator button on Barry’s phone, ‘cos she drew me. And to my amazement I opened the pack to find the joker. So the Grumble has “gone off”. Mucho muttering, but it was all fair and square, “honestly guv”.
And so to planning. This Monday 12th is the King’s birthday public holiday, so NO meeting. The 19th is a Combined Board, so NO meeting.
