Rotary Club of Moe
Monday 9th October
Guests: District Govenor Linda Humphries and PDG Mark Humphries
Moe RSL
6.00 for 6.30pm

Hi Everyone,

Well what a week we have had Fire and Floods.

On Monday night our guest speakers were Julie Murray & Bruce King. They spoke on the Past, Present and Future of Edward Hunter Bush Reserve.

The reserve was named after him because of his dedication to the and services to the community.
He served as the councilor for 22 years as well nearly every committee in Moe.
He was well known for his services to the community as well all of his relief work during the 1939 fires. The land was set aside originally as a water catchment and dam for the steam trains, water to housing and farms.
From the 1950s they no longer needed water for the steam trains but it was still a popular spot for the locals to swim in. Years later it became the Moe swimming pool where they held swimming carnivals. After a while they built a new outdoor pool in Vale Street Moe, the Edward Hunter was no longer for public use.
The Moe trust was formed between the 1950s and 1960s and local conservationist George Toye cut through the Reserve and made walking tracks.
At present they have between 10-18 volunteers with challenging task such as erosion, weeds, storm water damage as well as motor bikes. In the near future they hope to have infraction, public toilets, wheelchair access, education area as well as viewing platform.

At present the Edward Hunter Bush Reserve is used for picnics, bush walking, looking at different species of wildlife as well as education projects by schools.

Kishor spoke to us about Regionalisation Club Preference and Grouping and the importance of it.

This week we have DG Linda Humphries and PDG Mark Humphries coming along to hear about our club and our projects.

On the 12th October we will be doing our pricing for the Bee Keepers market car parking and all club members will be involved.

I would like to wish Alan and Maureen a safe trip, looking forward to hearing about it.

It was a great evening, with over 200 artworks from local artists and 130 artworks from Lifeskills Victoria, The Studio and the primary schools of Moe and Newborough.
On behalf of President Lyn and The Rotary Club of Moe, Robin presented Encouragement medals to the winning students from each of 7 local primary schools.
