Di's Dialogue # 29

The recent announcement by the Premier, Dan Andrews that COVID restrictions are to be eased, was very good news. The 7th Annual Table Tennis Event, hosted by Maureen and Alan Bishop, can go ahead as the number of people who are permitted to gather in the home or backyard has been increased to thirty. Great news! It is always a fun night and a chance for Rotarians to socialise.

Our Club Assembly on Monday night was well-attended and we enjoyed another evening at the Moe Hotel. We will continue our face-to-face meetings there on the 2nd Monday and 4th Monday of the month and will review the situation again at the end of June.

Rotary items have been collected from the Moe RSL and are being stored in our shed. I was very concerned that the Club Charter had been lost but RSL staff eventually found it on Thursday. Thank goodness! For the time being, I am happy to keep it at my place until we can determine where it can be hung on display.

A Club Administration ‘hybrid’ meeting was held at the Bishop’s on Thursday evening. Alan Bishop is stepping down from his role of President-Elect Nominee due to his commitments as President of the Yallourn Golf Club. The Nominating Committee will meet in April to plan succession leadership for our club.

Fireside Committee meetings happen next Monday and Chairs will organise where and time of meetings with their members. We are a very active club and it is great we have much to discuss, plan and enact. That is why we are in Rotary!

Have a lovely weekend everyone and take care.

Providing water and sanitation

Rotary Area of Focus March: Providing clean water, sanitation and hygiene

Clean water, sanitation and hygiene are basic necessities for a healthy environment and productive life.  When people have access to clean water and sanitation, waterborne diseases decrease, children stay healthier and attend school more regularly, and mothers can spend less time carrying water and more time helping their families.

How does Rotary help to make this happen?

Through water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs, Rotary’s people of action mobilize resources, form partnerships, and invest in infrastructure and training that yield long-term change.
Since 2013, The Rotary Foundation has invested in more than 1,000 WASH projects in more than 100 countries. Through grants from The Rotary Foundation and fundraising by Rotary clubs, our volunteers have supported water purification, hygiene education, toilet construction, and waste management.

 Rotary WASH projects have included:

Water for a Community - Rotary clubs partnered with local organizations to install a rainwater harvesting and distribution centre for 4,000 people in Madan, India.
They also delivered training programs for women in the community and students in 35 schools.

Wash in Guatemala Schools - Rotary clubs in Guatemala improved conditions for as many as 1,793 children in 10 schools in the town of Escuintla by providing toilets, washing stations, water tanks, and training.

Water supply in Tanzania - A dozen Rotary clubs collaborated with local partners to establish a water supply and delivery system for 1,500 people in the village of  Kigogo, Tanzania. They also taught the community how to maintain the systems and provided hygiene education.

BOWELSCAN PROGRAM INFORMATION   Bowel cancer screening program   -   MAY 2021

 Dear Kishor,

Thank you and the Rotary Club of Moe for being involved with the Rotary Bowelscan Committee Inc program in 2019, because of COVID - 19 and advise we received from pharmacies and the Pharmacy Guild the Rotary Bowelscan Committee Inc decided to cancel sales throughout the pharmacies in 2020 and sell them through our website.

I have received notice from our kit supplier and tester (Clinical Genomics) that they will again increase the cost of the kit next year from $15.00 to $18.00, at our AGM it was decided that we will not increase cost (20.00) to our clients and the committee is prepared to run at a small loss, we are also looking at an alternative kit if required.

It is important (because of the uncertainty beyond 2021) that we do not have an oversupply of kits, looking at your sales from 2018 (39) and 2019 (18) I would suggest I order 10 kits for next year and hopefully have none left over.

Please accept our thanks to you and your Club for their support for this Community Health awareness initiative over many years.

Yours in Rotary Service

Max Fry
