In joyful strains then let us sing,

Len’s Log 35
The annual Rotary Club of Moe Charity Golf Day on Monday 20th March was a great success. The winners overall were Matt’s Mates, (Matt Wilkinson’s team sponsored by his mum PP Di Wilkinson) for the third year in a row. What a fantastic result. Matt and his team have certainly mastered the three player Ambrose game.
Unfortunately the President’s Hackers started well and after 9 holes were competitive but deteriorated on the second 9 holes to finish in the middle of the field. There will be more practice for next year!
The raffle was won by Brett Farmer which was also a terrific result.
All involved worked very hard all day and we should be grateful to the Golf Day Committee and volunteers who put in such efforts before and on the day.
We will know the financial results in a week or so and the Board will discuss the application of funds in the community and beyond.
Latrobe City and our Playground sub-committee have been working on the draft plans for the playground and Alan Bishop will be speaking about any member input to the draft designs at the next RSL meeting in two weeks.
This coming Monday we will be meeting at SafeTech and a meal afterwards at the Tabaret at the Race club. Peter Kingsbury tells us that we should meet at Safetech at 6.00for 6.15. Dinner will be a la carte at the RSL with numbers to Kishor by Sunday afternoon.
We had two prospective members at the Golf Day who saw the “social side” of the club with enjoyment.

Allan Ormond was President and Jack Skelton Secretary. The Board reluctantly increased the Annual Subscription to $24 per year. Community Service had an active year with a further 150 trees planted in Lloyd Street. Community Service Chairman, Neil Tresidder, thanked the Moe Thirds Football Club and the City Council for their assistance with the tree planting. A Paddy’s Market was organised at the Moe Trade Fair and proved most successful, both financially and in terms of fellowship. A band of Rotarians, led by Tom Allen, painted the interior of Sunny Creek School at Old Gippstown while a fellowship meeting was held on the banks of the Latrobe River – Did anyone end up in the drink? Vocational Service arranged for” two fine lads “from Moe to attend the RYLA Camp.
Internationally the Club was most active. Brian Handley spoke to the Club, after his return from his year as a Foundation Technical Training Awardee in Kansas, giving Moe Rotarians an appreciation of International Youth Programs sponsored by Rotary. In March a tour was arranged for a visiting American Group Study Exchange Team. The Club had two students involved in the New Zealand Youth Exchange Scheme and completed the program to send bicycles to Rabaul, New Guinea, which had commenced in 1970-71. Ten bicycles were successfully dispatched. The Club through PDG Allan McHardy, arranged for Moe Plumber, Eric Tabuteau, to become a member of a FAIM team working on a project in New Guinea. Membership 41 Gained 7 Lost 8 Attendance 92.18%.
Pat and Mick where on a Trans-Atlantic Flight from JFK to Dublin on a brand new 4 engine Boeing 707 expected to take 6hours. One hour out of JFK the Captain announced that they had an engine failure but the plane was perfectly safe but the journey would take an extra 1 hour.
Sometime later a second engine failed, same procedure except that Captain now said the flight would take an extra 3 hours. After the “third” engine failed and a further 3 hours was added to the journey Pat said to Mick “I sure hope that we don’t lose another engine otherwise we will be up here all night”.
