Di's Dialogue #67

Thank you to the walking companions who joined in the LRH Fundraiser Virtual Fun Run/Walk on Saturday. Robin Noakes, accompanied by his daughter, Hazel and grandchildren, Sarah and Michael, Helen MacDonald, and her little dog Harvey, and I, had a leisurely walk along the Moe Yallourn North trail. Little wind and no sign of rain. Fortunately!

Rog Taylor generously donated money to the cause as did Di Wilkinson, who did a walk on her own course. Ross Maxfield missed the line-up due to a knee injury. All money raised went towards the ‘Wear House’ to purchase new clothes for inpatients who for many reasons do not have access to non-hospital clothing during their stay or upon discharge.

At the start of the walk, we spied a Rotarian at work. Len Cairns was busy tending to the weeds in the garden bed adjacent to the Rotary rotunda. Great job Len! Loved the promotion of ‘Rotarian at Work’ on your hi-vis vest! Len is attending the final session on Sunday of the Youth Mental Health First Aid course being held at the Moe Hotel on Sunday. This follow-up day has been rescheduled about four times since the original day held back in May.

As Monday night is a social/partners night, being the 5th Monday of the month, we will gather at Mia’s Kitchen in George Street, Moe. Meeting time I believe is 6.00pm for 6.30pm start. BYO your own beverages. Thanks to Roger Taylor for organising this evening. Mia has requested all patrons be double vaccinated to attend the venue. It will be a lovely night.

Our next social event will be our Christmas break-up at the RSL on Monday 13 December. More details are in this bulletin. Thanks Maureen for your attention to preparations for this night.

Stay safe everyone and have a wonderful week.

The Rotary Foundation

November is Rotary Foundation month.  The Mission of the Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education and the alleviation of poverty.

Rotary is focused on a number of critically important causes that make a significant difference to the lives of people in need in Australia and around the world.  In addition to supporting the global eradication of Polio and assisting in disaster responses, Rotary has the following seven areas of focus:

  1. Promoting Peace
  2. Fighting Disease
  3. Promoting Clean Water, Sanitation and Hygiene
  4. Saving Mothers and Children
  5. Supporting Education
  6. Growing Local Economies
  7. Environment and Sustainability

Service activities in these areas of focus are supported by Rotary Foundation grants.   Since it was founded more than 100 years ago, the Foundation has spent more than $4 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects.  Foundation grants include:

• Global grants that support large international projects with long term, sustainable outcomes in one or more of Rotary’s areas of focus. They typically range from $30,000 to $200,000.

• District Grants that fund smaller scale, short term projects that address immediate needs in the local community or abroad.

• Disaster Response Grants that allow districts to respond extremely rapidly to local disasters, such as earthquakes, floods and bushfires.

More information about the Rotary Foundation is available at www.rotary.org/en/about-rotary/rotary-foundation
