Is it the TRUTH?

All projects, scholars, and vocational training teams funded by global grants work toward specific goals in one or more of the Foundation’s six areas of focus:

  APRIL
Maternal and Child Health Month.

By prioritising Maternal and Child Health, Rotary establishes and supports projects which improve access to medical services for mothers and their children. These efforts are aimed at reducing the number of children under 5 who die from poor health practices each year.

President Michaels Mumbles.
In my absence last week, the old team of Bruce Paull and Dave Wood admirably controlled the program. Thanks guys.
I understand that Bryon capably "retrained" our members in the most effective use of our club website. We are informed that it is one of the very best district resources, and I encourage club members to make full use of its content. As it is regularly updated by Bryon, readers will find that material is almost always current. The various links provide untold information on a wide variety of topics.

The next big event for the club will be Energy Australia Open Day, Sunday, 17 April, which is not far away.

Michael.

Stories
February is Peace Month
February is World Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution Month:
"Peace is not merely the absence of war but the presence of justice, of law, of order...in short, of government" - Albert Einstein.
"Peace begins with a smile" - Mother Teresa.

Peace making was an early core objectiveof Rotary International, when Arch Klumph, the architect of The Rotary Foundation, proclaimed after World War 1, that "Rotary could create a mighty team to preserve peace, justice and honour among the nations of the world".
Ever since 1922, Rotary has promoted an objective to assist in the advancement of peace and goodwill.
So much of what we do as Rotary and Rotarians supports this, even though we do not necessarily think of it as such. Our humanitarian projects are very much at the heart of alleviating the causes of conflict and war.

The need for Rotary supporting international strategies to promote peace are greater than ever -
  • 42 million people are currently displaced by armed conflict or persecution
  • 90% of casualties in armed conflict are civilians
  • At least half of the casualties are children
  • 300,000 child soldiers (boys and girls under 18) are believed to be involved in conflict.

Len's Contribution

Just in case you weren't feeling too old today, this will certainly change things. Each year the staff at Beloit College in Wisconsin puts together a list to try to give the faculty a sense of the mindset of this year's incoming freshmen. Here's this year's list:

The people who are starting college this fall across the nation were born in 1998.

They are too young to remember the space shuttle blowing up.

Their lifetime has always included AIDS.

Bottle caps have always been screw off and plastic.

The CD was introduced 7 years before they were born.

They have always had an answering machine..

They have always had cable.

They cannot fathom not having a remote control..

Popcorn has always been cooked in the microwave.

They never took a swim and thought about Jaws.

They can't imagine what hard contact lenses are.

They don't know who Mork was or where he was from.

They never heard: "Where's the Beef?", "I'd walk a mile for a Camel", or "de plane,  de plane.."

They do not care who shot J. R. and have no idea who J. R. even is.

Mc Donald's never came in Styrofoam containers.

They don't have a clue how to use a typewriter.

Oirish Vasectomy.

After having their 11th child, an Irish couple decided that that was enough, as they couldn't afford a larger bed. So the husband went to his doctor and told him that he and his wife didn't want to have any more children ...

The doctor told him there was a procedure called a vasectomy that would fix the problem but it was expensive. A less costly alternative was to go home, get a large firecracker, light it, put it in a beer can, then hold the can up to his ear and count to 10.

The husband said to the doctor, "B'Jayzus, I may not be the smartest guy in the world, but I don't see how putting a firework in a beer can next to my ear is going to help me with my problem."
"Trust me, it will do the job", said the doctor.

So the man went home, lit a cracker and put it in a beer can. He held the can up to his ear and began to count:
"1, 2, 3, 4, 5," at which point he paused, and placed the beer can between his legs so he could continue counting on his other hand.

This procedure also works in New Zealand and Tasmania
