Di's Dialogue # 33

Our club meeting on Monday was a busy affair with much happening. What a delight it was to meet Mark Balla! He is indeed a 'toilet warrior'. Mark spoke passionately about his experiences in India which led him to finding opportunities to improve the lives of girls and women through providing toilet facilities so they could attend school everyday. We learnt much from Mark's presentation and the stories shared provided insights into a culture quite different from our own. Who knew that raising the little finger was a signal that a person needs to go to the toilet... Thank you again to Diane Wilkinson for organising a passionate 'Person of Action' to present to our club.

On Monday we have the Gippsland Rotary Golf Classic major fundraiser being held at the fabulous Yallourn Golf Course. Secretary Maureen has put in a request for the weather to be a comfortable 19C with clear blue skies! We hope that will be the case for the 36 teams of keen golfers who will be slicing and dicing, and putting the way through their 18 holes! I don't mind how much rain we have on Saturday and Sunday as long as there isn't any on Monday.

Thank you to the Chairs who managed to provide a brief report to Rotarians on Monday. It was a busy meeting but we managed to get through the agenda.

We had another guest at our meeting: AG Tim Wills who provided an update on behalf of DG Mark. An important event coming up is the District 9820 Mini Conference to be held face-to-face at Nossal High School on Saturday 1 May. The mini conference will commence at 3.30pm with a dinner following after the conference. Cost is $70.00 per person. It would be great if there was a strong representation of Moe Rotarians. Carpooling could be a great way to encourage attendance.

This weekend, I am off to the inaugural Interact Conference at Nossal HIgh School in Berwick. Three students from Lowanna College will be attending so I am hoping they will be inspired.

We are rapidly approaching Easter and I am aware that our first Monday of the month falls on Easter Monday. I am wondering whether Committee Chairs may consider holding a fireside meeting another night during the week so projects and planning can continue. Our next whole club meeting will be the second Monday of April and is yet to be finalised.

See you all at the Yallourn Golf Club on Monday.

7th Annual TTT at the Bishops'
Another great night was held for the 7th Annual Table Tennis Tournament at the Bishops.

After enjoying a bbq tea, we were entertained by Peter Kingsbury's guest, John Noble, a member of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, who played a couple of tunes on his violin.

Then the evening became more serious, with the drawing of names out of a hat, to work out playing partners.

Following a knock-out competition with everyone competing, the well sought-after perpetual trophy was finally awarded to the winning team of  Roger and Robin who had a very close contest against runners up - Kate and Ross.

The Bishop wish to thank everyone for coming along and special thanks to those who brought along a salad and/or sweets.

District 9820 Mini Conference

District Governor Mark and Linda are excited to invite you to our District 9820 Mini Conference as we gather in person for the first time in 12 months to celebrate our District.

Our mini conference will be held face to face on the 1st May following the online virtual 2021 Multi District Conference, information following.  Jump in your car, drive down the highway and meet us all at Nossal High School for an afternoon and evening of fun and entertainment.

This will be our first conference in two years. We have quite a lot to catch up, so we are breaking the conference into three components.
  1. The Conference component will bring us together to pay our respect to those called to higher service, to celebrate and acknowledge award recipients, to hear presentations and to ratify some short mandatory business resolutions.
  1. A friendship break in the foyer where we can socialise over finger food.
  1. Conference Dinner and entertainment in the main Hall where you will enjoy time together over a two-course meal, beverages included, while being entertained by our Nossal High School students as they showcase their amazing musical and dance talents.
