Hi Everyone

Another busy week with important news for fellow Rotarians.

On Monday night, we were pleased to meet and welcome John Reeves who was invited along by Robin Noakes. John is familiar with Rotary and has been a past member. We hope John is interested in reconnecting with Rotary.

An important discussion regarding meeting venues was had and resulted in Di Harrison sending out an email to regular meeting attendees seeking feedback. Thank you to everyone who responded to that email. Result: A majority of members prefer to have club meetings at the Moe RSL. Thanks also for the honest feedback which formed the basis of discussion and decision-making.

A meeting with Moe RSL President, Steve Mayes, and General Manager, Brendan Farrugia, was scheduled, (to discuss issues concerning communication and meals), and held Friday afternoon. I was accompanied by Rog Taylor, Helen Morrison, and Di Harrison. Constructive feedback was well-received by Steve and Brendan with several strategies identified to manage issues raised. Di and I will meet with the new chef next week to discuss a suitable and reasonably priced menu.

The nominating committee met at my place on Tuesday night. Much discussion was had and will be incorporated in the club visioning activity on February 12 to be led by Diane Wilkinson. This will be a very important meeting to address how we can strengthen our club. Ideas will be shared about how we move forward and connect with our community to increase club membership.

The Vocational/Youth committee met at Roger Taylor’s place on Wednesday night and reviewed their activities for the coming year. Planning for a ‘Youth Debate’ between Lowanna College and Trafalgar High School is scheduled for the end of April. An exciting new initiative.

On Thursday morning, members from the Community Committee had an early start at Latrobe City Council for a Staff Social Club event. They fired up the BBQ at 7.30am and cooked yummy egg and bacon rolls for staff. An amount of $500 was paid to the Rotary Club for their efforts. Many thanks to Alan Bishop, Len Cairns, and Bill Connell who worked alongside me. Rotarians in Action! Sorry, no photos! Too busy.

Please don’t forget about our Club Administration meeting which will be held immediately after our general meeting on Monday night. An agenda will be sent out to assist with keeping the meeting on track and to cover specific items. Check if you are listed in the bulletin under the ‘Club Administration’ banner. If you are, I hope to see you at the meeting!

On Monday 5th February, our club meeting will be held at the Moe Hotel. (the next week -Monday 12thwe’ll meet at the Moe RSL). We will have a guest speaker, Emma Jackson, who was sponsored to attend the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) held in Brisbane in January. Please introduce yourself to her and accompanying family members.

Many thanks to the Golf Committee (Roger, Maureen, and Alan) for all the work they are doing regarding the organisation of the annual Gippsland Rotary Golf Classic being held on 25 March at the Yallourn Golf Club. Please like and share the post on Facebook to promote the event.

I’d also like to thank Bill Connell for the work he is doing to keep the major raffle running smoothly. If you can assist with ticket sales, please choose a shift on the roster which will be circulated at our meeting on Monday.

In closing, I hope everyone enjoys the warm weather finally heading our way.
That’s all for now

Hi Everyone,

On Monday night, our guests were DG Linda Humphries,PDG Mark Humphries, and our own AG Di Harrison.
It was an enjoyable night with DG Linda giving a presentation to the club which focused on the RI Theme ‘Create Hope in the World’ and spoke of President Gordon R McInally’s hope to promote peace, restore hope, empower girls, and eradicate polio. He also is focusing on mental health and that Rotary should be known as an organization that takes care of its members as well as the people it serves.

DG Linda also spoke about Regionalisation and emphasized the benefits of developing smaller regional groupings and having an ‘Australian’ voice at a national level. The overarching aim is to provide better and more direct support to clubs through a less layered, but more effective and contemporary structure. The ideals of Rotary are to be retained with the focus remaining on the Clubs and their engagement with each other and their communities.

A further important message was the Zone 8 Virtual Conference on 28-29 October’Moments That Matter’. Cost $25.00 AUD. DG Linda would like Rotarians to register and listen to outstanding international presenters give updates from across Zone 8, and enjoy fabulous entertainment, all from the comfort of your home. Click here to register 2023 Zone 8 Virtual Conference | Zone 8 (rotaryzone8.org)
At the end of her presentation, she encouraged all Moe Rotarians to attend the final D9820 conference in Warrnambool from 23-25 February. To register, click on this link District Conference 2024: 23rd to 25th February 2024 | District 9820 (rotary9820.org.au)

PDG Mark Humphries spoke about his ‘Partner Project’ – ‘Safe water for Every Child’. He brought along a model of a water aid and demonstrated how it worked. He also invited Moe Rotarians to sample the filtered water!

Committee Chairs were invited to share details of club activities so DG Linda was aware of projects/activities currently underway. An important discussion was led by Roger Taylor regarding the Golf Day in March and asked if it was worth having the golf day as he was worried about getting sponsors and help for the day. After a detailed discussion with members, it was agreed that the golf day will proceed. Roger thanked members for again supporting an important club activity.

Acting Community Chair, Alan Bishop, noted Moe Rotarians have been approached to assist with car parking for the Earth Market on 12th November. Organisers will pay $500 for our services. Several members indicated they were available and happy to assist.
Last week, the swindle went off and this week, with a kitty of $27, the swindle winner for the night was our DG, Linda Humphries, who donated her winnings back to the club. Thank you!

On Monday night we have our RJCA presentations at the Moe RSL with students, family members, and teachers from Newborough and Elizabeth Street Primary Schools. So please come along and support the students as they share their achievements and skills gained during the year.
Lastly, please note the Board meeting will be held on Tuesday night. Meeting venue to be confirmed.
That’s all for now.

From the Rotary Club of Warragul:
Hello Rotarians and Friends of Rotary,

We are currently marking the Polio Month leading up to World Polio Day on October 24.This year our movie night will be held on Monday, October 23.
Peninsula Cinemas Warragul is again our venue with the movie commencing at 7.30pm.

“Rachel’s Farm” is a wonderful documentary that fits perfectly with Rotary’s seventh Area of Focus, “Supporting Environment”.

Here’s the publicity blurb:
“Film director and actress Rachel Ward is not the first person you’d expect to join a farming revolution. In this triumphant film, Rachel voyages from willful ignorance about the ecological impacts of conventional agriculture on her own rural property, to embracing a movement to restore the health of Australia’s farmland, food and climate.”

The price is $20 per person and all surplus funds go towards our Club’s contribution to ending polio.

To book please notify Greg King of the number (and names) who will be attending.
Pre-payment is required as no money will be collected on the night.

Please deposit your funds to:
Rotary Warragul General Account
BSB - 033 262
Account - 792 467

We are looking forward to seeing you at the theatre.
Don’t forget to invite family and friends.
