It was a very cold winter’s eve on Monday but inside Silvers Bar & Grill in Morwell it was warm and cosy. DG Bill Degnan and Judy joined us, but I did not get a photo of them together!! I did manage to snap a few photos of Rotarians and partners before our meals arrived and those are in this bulletin. It was a very relaxed social evening, and much fellowship was enjoyed by attendees. Again, thank you Roger Taylor for organising.
The ‘We CAN Do Better’ food can collection initiative started on Thursday at Woolworths in Moe. I am thrilled with the response from local residents who enthusiastically supported the initiative. Approximately 120 (or possibly more) food cans were collected by a representative from Gippsland Christian Community Church at the end of the last session. Many thanks to Jamie Hunt, Robin Noakes, John Hutchinson, Roger Taylor, and Ross Maxfield for being ‘People of Action.’
The goals of the initiative are three-fold: to support our local community and respond to an identified need, for Rotarians to be seen as ‘People of Action,’ and lastly, to increase our membership as a result of connecting with our community.
The collection will run every Thursday in June from 10.00am to 4.00pm at Woolworths, Moe. Sessions run from 10.00pm-12.00md, 12.00md -2.00pm, and 2.00pm-4.00pm. A minimum of two people is needed: one to be near the entry into the store and one to staff the collection table. This approach was very successful!
Thank you, Bill Connell, for your support in organising the roster and willingness to set-up and pack-up each week. Please contact Bill

My new Fijian friends: Emi, Leba, Kini and Torika, appear to be settling in well. I visited them on Friday afternoon, and it was lovely to see them again. They are still feeling the cold but now have enough blankets to keep them warm during the freezing cold nights. Unfortunately, our shared cooking session has been moved to the end of the month due to special visitors arriving on Saturday.
Please note: The regular meeting schedule has been changed to accommodate a Combined Board Zoom meeting now PE Robin Noakes has returned from his overseas jaunt, and prior to Secretary Maureen and Alan Bishop heading off for a well-earned break.
So, no Fireside meetings this week.
The following week will be a themed hybrid meeting at the Moe RSL commencing at the usual time of 6.00pm for a 6.30pm start.
Until then, stay safe.
