President's Report
On Monday night our guest speaker was Vicki Hamilton from GARDS (Gippsland Asbestos
Related Disease Support). Vicki delivered an informative presentation on asbestos exposure
and its long-term effects on people in the Latrobe Valley.
Workers in the power stations and other industrial sites were routinely exposed, and over
the years an estimated 140,000 Australians have been affected.
Asbestos remains present in many everyday materials including building products, car parts,
walls, floors, insulation, and exterior cladding.
Vicki also spoke about silicosis disease, a dust related lung condition caused by activities
such as cutting or breaking concrete, mining, tunnelling, and sandblasting.
Vicki provides vital support to individuals and families across the Gippsland region who are
living with asbestos related and silica related diseases, offering guidance and compassionate
assistance.

Just a reminder that next Monday, 31st August, we will be enjoying a social gathering at the
Thai Restaurant in George Street, Moe, commencing at 6.00 pm. Members and partners
from the Inner Wheel Club of Moe will also be joining us for a relaxed evening of fellowship.

As discussed, our Club will be joining with the Rotary Club of Morwell in supporting the Morwell Proactive Policing Unit, who will be conducting the following community projects.

A Trip Down Memory Lane
From the archives .............the late 1990's
1997-98
Organisation of a bus trip to Darnum Musical Village for the LV Nursing Home Residents and Carers.
A donation of $2,000 was made to the Moe Conference of St Vincent de Paul for their Mobile Soup Van and a Children’s Memorial at Moe Cemetery was funded by the Club.
Presentations continued of the John Dwyer Award at Lowanna College and Pride of Workmanship Awards to students in all local Schools.
1998-99
The Club reached the milestone of fifty years as a member of Rotary International.
Celebrations included the Saturday afternoon display of memorabilia, dinner held at the Town Hall; and the unveiling of plaques to honour Rotarians who passed away while still members of our club followed by a barbecue luncheon with families and further fellowship.
The club sponsored the formation of the Probus Club of Narracan, making three Probus clubs in the Moe area.
1999-2000
Major landscape facelift of the “Gatehouse Gardens” which included cutting down and removing a number of old dead trees, preparing the ground and planting 80 new shrubs and covering the area with mulch.
A successful German Theme Night Out was held at the German Club in Morwell.
The Moe and Trafalgar Rotary Clubs were once again able to co-ordinate the Blue Rock Classic
