Di's Dialogue #73
Greetings to all Rotarians and friends of Rotary!

It has been another busy week of family commitments, Rotary work, and outdoor activity.
On Wednesday, I felt life was returning to normal as I took my position outside of the Nextra newsagency in Moe and sold raffle tickets for a couple of hours. Although ticket sales were a bit slow, I enjoyed the interactions with locals as we chatted with face coverings insitu.

believe there is much support for our club and a couple of donations were happily placed in the collection can. The raffle prizes are great and many thanks to Shen Guo (Betta Electrical) and Michael Koch (Optus) for supporting the raffle again this year.
Please support the selling of raffle tickets as Bill Connell is having a bit of a tough time filling the roster. If you can do an extra ‘shift’ please do. I understand things are quite challenging due to COVID and the current wave of Omicron is adding further pressure. Perhaps that will ease in the next couple of weeks. Thank goodness there is talk the ‘Code Brown’ for hospitals could be lifted from Monday!

This week we have our 2nd Monday of the month (Themed meeting) which will be run face-to-face (F-2-F) and online via Zoom. Maureen Bishop will chair the F-2-F part of the evening and Robin Noakes will be the Zoom moderator. Thank you, Roger, for organising a special guest speaker. Aimee Rhodes, (Business Engagement Officer), from Lifeline Gippsland, will give a presentation about the ‘Open Book Approach’ used to manage mental health issues in the workplace.
If you are attending the meeting via Zoom, please let Robin Noakes know and a link will be sent to you. On Monday, Maureen has agreed to step in for Helen. Helen Morrison will be an apology as her father is undergoing surgery on Monday afternoon at Cabrini Hospital. I will be attending the meeting via Zoom.
Just a brief reminder for those with Club Administration duties/roles, PE Robin Noakes has organised a Club Admin meeting for Tuesday 15 February starting at 7.00pm. It will be offered as a hybrid meeting. Please let Robin know if you will be attending via Zoom.

Included in this bulletin are two flyers: one promoting our 2022 Gippsland Rotary Golf Classic being held at the Yallourn Golf Club on Monday 28 February; the other flyer is promoting an Autumnal Dinner Dance at the Traralgon Vineyard on Saturday 26 March to support Gippsland Rotary Centenary House and organised by Kay Radford (Fundraising Sub-Committee).

It will be a busy weekend as the Lardner Park Farm World is also being held and AG Tim Wills is seeking volunteers from Rotary clubs in the West Gippsland Cluster to assist with staffing a promotion stall at Farm World over the weekend. I have let him know we have our major fundraiser on Monday so as Maureen says, ‘All hands are needed on deck’!

Take care everyone and stay safe.

Rotary Foundation Student Scholarships

The Rotary Club of Moe, in conjunction with Rotary District 9820, is very pleased to have been able to partner with Lowanna College again to distribute Rotary Foundation Student Scholarships to eligible students for 2021-22.       The scholarships are made possible through the Rotary Foundation grants to support improved educational opportunities.

Rotary Club of Moe President Di Harrison and International & Foundation Committee Chair Diane Wilkinson presented the grant of $1000 to Lowanna College Principal Adam Hogan and Deputy Principal Michael Lakeman in December 2021.

The primary purpose of the scholarship grants is to provide support for financially disadvantaged secondary students and to help build stronger relationships between schools and Rotary.

To be eligible, students may be enrolled in any year of secondary education in a Victorian secondary school.  The scholarship grant can be used to benefit from one to four students, as determined by the school and is intended to assist students to more fully participant in normal curriculum activities.     Lowanna College used the grant to assist two students in the current year through financial assistance to purchase laptops.

Deputy Principal, Michael Lakeman advised that “The purchase of the laptops for the students will significantly improve educational outcomes and help reduce the financial impact on their family.  These students will be able to more fully engage in their learning and enable them to collaborate and connect online with other students and resources.  They will help provide extra curriculum support and programs can be customised for each individual’s needs.”

The Rotary Club of Moe appreciates the opportunity offered through District 9820 to participate in the Foundation Student Scholarship grant program and will endeavour to access the grants again next year to be able to continue to provide support for local students.

And That’s How The Fight Started:

One year, I decided to buy my mother-in-law a cemetery plot as a Christmas gift
The next year, I didn't buy her a gift.
When she asked me why, I replied,
"Well, you still haven't used the gift I bought you last year!"
And that's how the fight started.....
______________________________

My wife and I were watching Who Wants To Be A Millionaire while we were in bed.
I turned to her and said, 'Do you want to have sex?'
'No,' she answered.
I then said, 'Is that your final answer?'
She didn't even look at me this time, simply saying, 'Yes..'
So I said, "Then I'd like to phone a friend."
And that's when the fight started...
