Once more a busy week or two. Our Bulletin Editor, Helen Macdonald has been in hospital and is recovering well. Rotarians have been in touch and we are hoping to have Helen along at our meetings soon.
Last week our team (Co-President Alan Bishop. Community Chair Ross Maxfield, Robin Noakes, Diane Wilkinson, David Wilkinson and co-President Len Cairns dug away on the round garden in the Rotary Moe Botanic Gardens as the first stage of our District Grant Garden restoration project. Five trailer loads of old soil were taken to the Yallourn Golf course and we are making back-breaking progress!.
On Monday 13th October our first group of students involved in the RJC programme presented their stories of experiences and answered questions. Great to see the Albert Street Primary School students do so well and there was solid support from parents and teachers for the presentations.
Next Saturday night is our musical night with Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton at the Newborough Bowling Club. Wonderful work in organising and ticket sales by PP Lyn Cassar with proceeds going to the ongoing "Wheelchairs for Kids" charity which our club has been supporting over the past 2 years.
Developments in the Rotary Club of Moe Botanic Gardens.
Our Rotary Club has, over the past 45 years, prepared and developed the Botanic Gardens. First, all those years ago, what was a low-lying area of land beside the Narracan Creek was prepared by Rotarians by raising the banks of the creek to allow the development of the area. We have continued to plant trees and enhance picnic and BBQ areas. Our development, with Latrobe City Council, of a children's playground has further enhanced this community space. In recent months the establishment of an Indigenous garden adjacent to the Tennis courts, has been a Latrobe City Council development inspired by local efforts of the "Make Moe Glow" group. This is a striking addition to the Garden.
We are working to enhance our Round Garden bed to honour the famous Rotary Health Roses. This has become possible due to a Rotary District 9815 Grant and our own funds.
Our other Garden bed has beautiful blooms of tall Iris flowers in "Rotary Blue" at present. The border or Nandina plants continues to flourish.
(Sorry no pictures tried everything but I couldn't copy them, only so much you can do with a phone and in isolation).
