Robin's Rambles #1

Well, my first contribution to the Bulletin as President. Farewell to Di's Dialogue and hello to Robin's Rambles. The number plate of this edition is RR1. Forgive me because this a long one, but I need to acknowledge the events of the week.

Thank you to outgoing President Di. I think it would be fair to say that we both enjoyed the handover on Monday 27th. On behalf of our Club, Di presented $5000 cheques to each of Latrobe Hospital and Gippsland Rotary Centenary House. Don McRae on behalf of the Hospital spoke about how it would help with the purchase of a specialist Paediatric Ultrasound, and Dave Swainsbury (RC Morwell) spoke about its value in helping in the running of Centenary House.

Special congratulations to Roger Taylor who was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow, and to Barry Dunstan who was acknowledged as Rotarian of the Year 21/22. I was delighted to be presented with a Paul Harris Fellow pin myself.

Di was pleased to relinquish the chain of office, and it seemed to me that it was very quickly placed around my neck by our District Governor Paul Mee. In addition to Paul, we had Rotarians guests from several clubs, and guests from Moe Lions, Apex, Newborough Probus and Inner Wheel. It was a great night of celebration of Di's 2 years as President, with many of our Rotarians, partners and family present. Whilst we missed them it was also great that many of our Rotarians sent apologies from all parts of Australia and overseas. I wish them a great time.
That they have been able to get away is an indicator that perhaps we are moving a steadier “new normal”, where travel and family time are easier to achieve.

Thanks to the CAN DO team at Woolworths on Thursday 30th. Bill, Jamie, Dave, Ross and Di H. Another very productive day. Special thanks to Manager Justin Presley who has allowed us access to a prime spot in Woolworth's checkout area for the entire project.

And to business. I have asked Jamie to make a Hybrid link available for Monday 4 July. Apparently it is a significant date overseas, so I would invite members to dress accordingly and suffer a fine for their Dress code.
I will use this meeting to explain some ideas that I have for the coming year, and also hope to discuss the fees and dues.  Please make sure you have read the proposal attached to the email of 22 June from Di Harrison, (and resent 30 June from myself.)

And HOT OFF THE PRESS.

On Sunday 26 June, President Di was presented with a Paul Harris Sapphire by District Governor Bill Degnan at the District 9820 changeover. This was in recognition of her contribution to the MUNA program. We may not appreciate quite how much work had to be done to get this program to run during COVID. Congratulations Di.
