Life in Erica - Guest Speaker Ben Allen

Hi Everyone

First, I would like to welcome Robin back on board with us again. Monday night our guest speaker is Ben Allen talking on Life in Erica. Ben is also a paramedic for community ambulance Rawson.

I was invited to attend the opening of the Moe Revitalisisation Project on Thursday but unfortunately, I cannot attend. Helen MacDonald & Len Cairns will be going in place of me and it would be great if other Rotarians could attend as well.

This is a great asset for Moe with skate ramps for beginners and intermediate kids, a BBQ area as well as playground.

On Thursday night I will be attending a combined meeting with Noble Park-Dingley and Springvale City at Sandown. This is a fundraising night for Local Schools Library Program.

Next week we have someone coming along to talk to us about the past -present and future of the Edward Hunter reserve.

Tonight, is also club assembly night for all chairs to give any reports.  Good luck to the footy fans hope your team wins.

Stay Safe

President Lyn

The “Swindle” is Back!
Following discussions at Board, it has been decided to resume the “Swindle” at Club meetings.  The purpose is to have a fun activity and also to raise some funds for our Administration account to offset some of our Club running costs and thereby assist us in maintaining our membership fees at a reasonable amount.
The “Swindle” will operate as follows:
  • Raffle tickets will be $1.00 each and members can purchase as many as they would like at each meeting, with stubs placed in a container to be drawn at the meeting.
  • Half of the funds raised will go towards the pool for prizes and the other half to the Administration account.
  • If the Rotarian whose number is drawn out selects the Joker from the cards, they will receive the full pool funds.
  • If they select a different card, then the face value of that card will be the prize.
  • If the Joker is not selected on the first draw, a second number will be drawn from the tickets.
  • If the Rotarian whose number is drawn out selects the Joker, they will receive the remaining pool funds.
  • If they select a different card, then the face value of that card will be the prize and the remaining pool funds will carry over to the following week and then be built upon through additional ticket sales.
Any questions, please just ask President Lyn or me.

Gippsland's Best Return Gala Event

On the evening of the 28th September 2023, in the Gippsland Performing Arts Centre in Traralgon, the Rotary Club of Traralgon will hold a Gala Concert, which will bring home to the Latrobe Valley some of those who have gone from here over the years to make their mark in a career in the Arts.

The two main reasons for the concert were firstly, to bring home a selection of our fantastic local talent and secondly, to show our youngsters that even though we live in Regional Victoria, with the combination of talent, perseverance, hard work and dedication, anything is possible.

The cast will consist of Alison Jones, Nathan Lay, Kerryn Lockhart, Mary Mirtschin, Brice Sedgwick, Ryan Marshall and Jayla Balcombe, along with two of Kerryn and Mary's students - Hollie Gibson and Cecily de Gooyer. We are also fortunate to experience Daniel Hansen's digital expertise during the evening.

As well as being a great family night of topclass musical entertainment - with a theme of musical theatre and film - we are raising funds for a youth based project in the Latrobe Valley working in conjunction with Latrobe Blue Light and the Police. As mentioned we are very excited about this project, for which, otherwise, funding would have to be sought from other sources.

Tickets are $42 or $29 access (concession) and can be purchased online through the Gippsland Performing Arts Centre Box Office.
