Hi Everyone,
Firstly, thank you to everyone who helped make Saturday night such a success: Ross, Suzie, Diane W, Robin, and Di H. The evening kicked off with ‘Roy Orbison’ and then later, Issi Dye, entertained us with a mix of hits from Elvis Presley and The Everley Brothers. It was great to see so many people up and dancing and generally enjoying themselves. It was also great to have DG Linda and her partner, Mark Humphries in the crowd.
The event was held to raise money for my President’s Project, ‘Wheelchairs for Kids’ and I thank Robin Noakes for bringing along the chair and highlighting the specifics and cost of the chair. There was a fabulous response to the sale of raffle tickets with all available tickets sold. Many thanks to Harvey Norman Moe for generously donating prizes, valued around $1400.
Due to the support of attendees buying raffle tickets, enough money was raised to purchase five chairs, with one person donating funds to purchase another chair. To date, funds have been raised to cover the costs of producing 19 chairs for disabled children overseas. I am now resetting my goal and hope to raise enough money for 25 chairs.
Monday night was a busy night with an invited guest, Emma Jackson, and our AGM. The AGM was presided over by President Lyn. No office bearers were nominated for the positions of President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The nominating committee will meet to discuss potential nominees. Please give some thought as to how you can use your skills to support our club.
Emma Jackson, a Year 11 student who attends Virtual School Victoria has been accepted into the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF), being held in Brisbane in January. An impressive presentation was given by Emma who is grateful for the support provided by the Rotary Club of Moe. By attending NYSF, she hopes to gain deeper insights as to the range of careers available in various scientific fields in an effort to help her decide her own career path. Chair, Bryce Eishold thanked Emma for her presentation and invited her to present to the club again post NYSF.
This coming Monday, (4th December) is our 'Pride of Workmanship’ event at Old Gippstown Moe starting at 6.30pm. There will be 12 schools represented and I would like to thank Youth/Vocation Chair, Roger Taylor, and Maureen Bishop for organising the evening. I encourage all Moe Rotarians to attend if possible as it is a wonderful night of recognition for students.
Our final social event of 2023 is our Christmas break-up on Monday 11 December at the Newborough Bowling Club in Monash Road. The cost is $40 per head for a two-course meal with drinks at bar prices. Children will be $10 per head. Partners of Rotarians are very welcome to attend. Final numbers are needed by Thursday 7th December, so please let me know if you are attending. Payment can be made on the night at the Bowling Club. Start time is 6.30pm with Santa arriving right on 7.00pm! Join in the Christmas theme. Lots of tinsel, and colours, red, green, and gold please.
Lastly, sincere sympathy to PP Helen Morrison and her extended family, on the loss of her much-loved father, Bert De Vries. Thinking of you all at this very sad time.
That’s all for now.
