Robin's Rambles #16
It was great to welcome Irene Cannon and Margaret Malloch to our meeting on the 10th. Good attendance again, plus Peter and Michael on Zoom. Thank you, Jamie for making it happen. Di Harrison was unable to be with us as she was attending a Rotary meeting in Leongatha.
In her role as District Chair of MUNA, she presented a special award to two students, Mia and Maddy, from Mary MacKillop Catholic Regional College, who represented Russia in the recent MUNA event held at Nossal High School. An inaugural ‘Governor’s Commendation’ was presented to the students in recognition of their contribution to the assembly. There are several UN-member countries, such as North Korea and Russia, for whom winning the Peace Award would seem outrageous, therefore the MUNA committee saw fit to establish an award to acknowledge the work of students who consistently maintain the political, social and economic position of countries they represent which is very difficult for students to do.
On the school scene we enjoyed RJCA presentations for 2 students from Newborough Primary school and 4 from Albert St primary school. The students faced down their fears and each one gave a good account of themselves.
It was entertaining, interesting and uplifting. Roger Taylor was briefed by some parents as to how much confidence their children have developed through the program. A most rewarding project for the club to support. We look forward to hearing from Elizabeth St and Newborough East Primary schools on the 24th October.
And I promised Blake, from Albert St Primary School, that I would use his quote when we speak to the 2023 candidates “It is a lot of focus, a lot of work and a lot of fun”. Sums it up.
Congratulations to the BBQ rebuild team on the progress thus far. The huge slabs have been removed by the skilled work of Ron DiSisto. The site looks very neat and tidy, ready for the next stage.
The work on the rose bed garden looks good. The roses are getting established and the circumference perennials are getting established.
Di Harrison, Dave Wood, Sandy Auger, Kate and I joined a large audience Friday night to watch “Looking for Alice” theatre presented by Life Skills Victoria. What a hoot. Di H managed to grab a selfie with the two directors, plus a photo of the cast.
We have a Board meeting on Monday 17th, so no meeting at the RSL.
