Di’s Dialogue #78

I really enjoyed my first face-to-face Rotary meeting on Monday night! It was so good to be back with everyone at the Moe RSL and experiencing a club meeting in real life rather than on a screen.

Regarding future meeting modes, thoughts were sought from members, (online and at the venue), regarding the need to continue with hybrid meetings and how that could be achieved when Robin Noakes is away on leave. It was stressed that if members were able to meet face-to-face, then they should be strongly encouraged to do so.

Many thanks to Jamie Hunt, who has volunteered to learn the ropes to run a hybrid meeting from Robin, so we can continue to include all members in our club meetings.

AG Tim Wills congratulated our club on having a President-Elect, Secretary-Elect and Treasurer-Elect for the 2022-2023 Rotary year. A couple of clubs in the West Gippsland cluster are not so well-placed. Tim reported nominations are being sought for the role of District Governor in 2024-2025. Our district will merge with D9810, and the new amalgamated district will be known as Rotary District 9815.

Tim mentioned there will be Rotary options for raising money for flood victims through RAWCS; promoted the ‘End Polio Now’ film night; and sought volunteers to assist with the promotion of Rotary at Farm World next weekend. Please let me know if you are available to assist.

Before I forget, thank you to the members of the Community committee who volunteered their time to renovate the small rotunda in the Moe Botanic Gardens. I was there on Friday afternoon and the rotunda looked amazing. Have a look at the photo I took to share with everyone!

I’ve also included a couple of pics from the team who provided service, under the banner of Rotary, to help raise funds for ‘Lynie’s Day’ (Leukemia Foundation), at the Yallourn Golf Club last Saturday. It was well worth the effort!

As far as our Major Fundraising Golf Day activity is concerned, Chair, Roger Taylor, reported all seems to be going well with the number of teams needed being achieved. Maureen Bishop will be seeking help from club members to fulfill certain roles so I am hoping members will respond enthusiastically and support our club’s major fundraising event. Bill Connell continues to do a sterling job with organizing raffle ticket rosters. Only one more week left!

Just a reminder, this week is the 3rd Monday of the month, which is our Board meeting evening. It will be held online, and a Zoom link will be sent out to Board members on Sunday evening.
So, take care and stay safe everyone, and hopefully I’ll see you all at the Yallourn Golf Club on Monday 28 March .

The RSL has been booked for February 28, March 14, April 11 and April 25 (Anzac Day).
My thoughts on this meeting is that we are having so few face to face meetings, that we dispense with the Public Holiday/No Rotary meeting concept, and meet on the evening of the public holiday.
Let me know if I’ve got it wrong, and whether you want me to book the RSL Board Room for 6.30? on March 221 and April 18.
Coming Soon – Gippsland Rotary Golf Classic March 28th.

Some reminders and updates of status of our golf event:
Meals – Barbecue lunch and evening meal catered by Moe Golden Hen and served by Inner Wheel. Players’ meal costs are included in their registration fee. Other Rotarians and partners are charged $15.00.  (Inform Maureen if a partner is dining with us as this impacts on our seating and catering numbers.)
Raffle Books – Arrange to deliver your raffle books return with money to Bill asap, but before the 28th as we need to account for every book sold and unsold. Ideally. If you can’t catch up with Bill, bring them in to a selling point at Nextra (Wednesdays and Thursdays) or K Mart (Saturdays and Sundays.)
Golf Day Roles – We are currently creating the roster based on your feedback on availability times. Please advise Maureen or Rog if circumstances mean you need to change your availability.
Prize Donations – If we find we are a little short of bottles of wine we may do a ring around so that all golf prizes are covered.
Auction – Very few items have been received for auction, however Rob Sim has agreed to be our auctioneer as required.
We hope that you really enjoy the day.

Botanic Garden Playground Maintenance Crew

The Community Committee is calling on all members to volunteer to assist with the clean-up of the Playground.

A volunteer attends once a week for 4 weeks, on a day that suits, to clear the pathways and play areas of leaves and debris, pick up rubbish and do a general tidy up.  This normally takes about an hour or so.  The blower, rubbish pick up tool and bucket are provided by the club.

So far this year, we have had a number of members already volunteer.  If you haven’t yet had the opportunity to assist, please let the Chair of Community, Alan Bishop, know which month you are available.  If you cannot commit for all 4 weeks, please contact Alan to discuss the option of assisting for one or two weeks.
