Our home is girt by sea,
Our land abounds in natures gifts,
Of beauty rich and rare,
In history's page, let every stage
Advance Australia Fair!
In joyful strains then let us sing,
"Advance Australia Fair!"
FOUR WAY TEST
1.
Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

RI President's Message, July 2018

Dear fellow Rotarians,

One year ago, your Rotary International Board of Directors adopted a new vision statement, reflecting our aspirations for our organization and its future. It reads, "Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves."

That vision for a better world and our role in building it, is what drives us in Rotary. It’s what made us become members, it’s what motivates us to serve, and it’s what led me to choose our theme for this Rotary year: Be the Inspiration.

I want to see Rotary Be the Inspiration for our communities by doing work with a transformational impact. It’s time to start moving forward, by removing the barriers that are holding us back. Let’s make it easier to make adjustments in our clubs or start new clubs that suit different needs. Let’s work to strengthen Rotaract and smooth the transition from Rotaract clubs into Rotary. Let’s give all Rotarians the flexibility to serve in the ways that work best for them, so that every Rotarian finds enduring value in Rotary membership.

This year, I ask all of you to Be the Inspiration for sustainable service by addressing the impact of environmental issues on our work. The environment plays a key role in all six of our areas of focus, and that role is only becoming greater as the impact of climate change unfolds. It’s time to move past seeing the environment as somehow separate from those six areas. Clean air, water, and land are essential for healthy communities – and essential for the better, healthier future we strive for.

Be the Inspiration – and together we can, and we will, inspire the world.

I am sure these two unlikely lads will bring along a lot of mirth and merriment, and seriousness when warranted (hint: DG night)
Let's make things happen and run to time. The important thing is to make it fun!

Community service - Snow train

The Snow Train from Melbourne is coming up on Saturday 28th July and Sunday the 5th of August.

Our Club will be selling Hot Soup and Coffee on both days, the Moe Scout Group will be selling Sausages.

The trading period will be approximately between 4.30pm and 5,30pm when the buses arrive back to the Station, the actual trading period might only 20 – 30 minutes in the arrival time frame.

We will have a meeting after our next Club meeting on the 23rd of July.

Please advise if you are unable to help on the above dates.

Last Week's Meeting/Next Week's Meeting
Last Week -
As our numbers were predicted to be well down during the month of September, due to members' travel and a variety of other circumstances, it was agreed that we would try different meeting structures during this period.
To that end, we met last week at our usual venue, the Moe RSL, but in Banjo's Restaurant rather than the Function Room.
This proved to be a fine alternative for our 9 members in attendance, and 2 guests (thanks for coming David Morrison and Kate Noakes). We enjoyed welcoming Hutchy back after his Caribbean escapade, and the informal arrangements allowed us all to have a pleasant evening of fellowship.

Next Week -
Again a different setting - we will visit Gippsland Rotary Centenary House where manager (and past Assistant Governor) Carol Crewe will meet us at 6.30 for a 30 minute presentation which will include an explanation of the forthcoming Stage 3 development followed by a tour of the facility.
Those wishing to attend will need to be at GRCH by 6.20 as our timeframe only permits us to stay for 30 minutes, as we will then leave for Love Pizza and Pasta (Hoyle St Morwell, between Princes Hwy and Buckley Streets) for dinner.
I will notify numbers to them Monday morning, and reservation of our table will be from 7.15.
NB: Because I will be an apology, I will require names no later than Sunday night, and will assume that visitors to Centenary House will also be eating together, unless otherwise informed.
I already have acceptances from President Peter, Alan S, Lyn, Helen M, John H, Dave W and Bryon.

Eating in the 60's

(Paddy has taken a break for a few weeks, so we have some other ideas to fill up some page)

EATING IN THE SIXTIES

Pasta was not eaten in Australia or N.Z.

Curry was a surname.

A takeaway was a mathematical problem.

A pizza was something to do with a leaning tower.

All potato crisps were plain; the only choice we had was
whether to put the salt on or not.

Rice was only eaten as a milk pudding.

Calamari was called squid and we used it as fish bait.

A Big Mac was what we wore when it was raining.

Brown bread was something only poor people ate.

Oil was for lubricating, fat was for cooking.

Tea was made in a teapot using tea leaves and never green.

Sugar enjoyed a good press in those days, and was regarded
as being white gold. Cubed sugar was regarded as posh.

Fish didn't have fingers in those days.

Eating raw fish was called poverty, not sushi.

None of us had ever heard of yoghurt.

Healthy food consisted of anything edible.

People who didn't peel potatoes were regarded as lazy.

Indian restaurants were only found in India.

Cooking outside was called camping.

Seaweed was not a recognised food.

"Kebab" was not even a word, never mind a food.

Prunes were medicinal.

Surprisingly, muesli was readily available, it was called
cattle feed.

Water came out of the tap.
If someone had suggested bottling it and charging more than petrol for it, they would have become a laughing stock!!.

BUT the one thing that we never ever had on our table in the sixties

" Elbows or Phones"
