Another week has flown by!
We had a very busy evening which was enjoyed by Rotarians present. To begin the night, Foundation/International Chair, Diane Wilkinson, spoke about The Rotary Foundation and the involvement worldwide to eradicate polio. (World Polio Day was on 24 October). Other information about PolioPlus is included in this bulletin.
We also had students from Albert Street Primary School and Newborough Primary School, as well as their families and teachers, in attendance.
The students gave a presentation about activities they had done for their Rotary Junior Community Award (RJCA). Some of the activities included playing lawn bowls, visiting the Royal Freemasons Aged Care and talking with residents, learning sign language, and participating in the Anzac march.
At the end of each presentation, Rotarians asked questions to learn more about activities done by the students. Overall, the students believed they had learnt a lot from doing the Award program. They gained confidence to speak publicly, learnt leadership skills, and how to cope with challenges. It was a great night as always when students come along to Rotary. Much respect is shown to the students who are always very nervous!
As a side note, Bulletin Editor, Helen MacDonald, has asked that if members want information put in the bulletin, to please email it to her by Friday afternoon. She is keen to include photos from events/activities featuring Rotarians etc.
On Tuesday, I was invited by Cr. Sharon Gibson, who runs a session about community happenings on Gippsland Radio FM in Morwell. I was asked questions about the fundraising even being organized by the Rotary Club of Moe, featuring Issy Dye and his "Elvis and Roy Orbison Tribute night." This is happening on Saturday 25 November at the Newborough Bowling Club.
A key focus of the discussion with Cr. Gibson was about the ‘Wheelchairs for Kids’ fundraising activity. Funds raised from the Issy Dye evening will be directed to the humanitarian project. She was really enthusiastic about the project and encouraged people to support the event, and also the Rotary Club of Moe.
Just a quick note to let Moe Rotarians know I have submitted the Regional Council Election vote on behalf of members, and the Rotary Community Grouping survey has been completed.
Don’t forget we have our Partners Night on Monday 30 October (5th Monday/month). We will be meeting in the main Bistro of the Moe Hotel in Lloyd Street, for a 6pm start. A table has been booked for 10 people. If you were not at our meeting on Monday night and would like to attend, PLEASE let me know as soon as possible. The following week will be the usual ‘Cup Eve’ celebration, (Monday 6 November), so start planning your cup outfit! It will be a fun night. We will be at the Moe RSL.
Finally, many thanks to Past President Robin Noakes for the work he has done regarding the Earth Market in Moe on 12 November, in particular, organizing the car parking roster. If you can help, please let him know as a couple more helpers are needed. He has also done a great job promoting my President’s project – ‘Wheelchairs for Kids’.
That’s all for now.
