Again, a good attendance at our Club Assembly, and AGM on Monday 28th Nov. Roger had been
advised of no kitchen service at the RSL due to a catering reorganisation and did well to arrange
access to a relatively quiet spot at the Moe Racing Club when we were. Thank you Moe Racing Club.

The AGM was pleased to endorse 2023/24 nominations President Elect Lyn Cassar, Secretary elect Kishor Manani and Treasurer elect Sandy Auger. All 3 were assured of strong support from the whole
club in these important roles. Lyn and I had already attended a President Elect Zoom Seminar on
Saturday and we both got a lot out of it.

The tribute to Australia was presented by Di Wilkinson, and she spoke about women in leadership
roles in Australian history. A reading of Isobel Marion Dorothea Mackellar’s poem My Country, written while homesick in London and first published in London in 1908 was met with acclamation.

Incredible effort has gone into the BBQ rebuild this week. We have a partially erected frame and
now wait on adjustment to some brackets before the final 4 legs can be fitted. Special thanks go out
to the Rotarians who were involved, under the instruction of Ron Vershuur, and Peter Beasley and
with help from Ryan Smith. A great sense of camaraderie was able to carry us through the occasional set backs. Thanks to Lyn who arrived with lunch on Wednesday, it was gratefully received at an
opportune moment.

Our next highlight is the Pride of Workmanship night on December 5th at Old Gippstown. Len has organised the catering crew. May I please ask other Rotarians who are not already involved to be there by 6:00 pm, so they can help greet our guests as they arrive and make them welcome.
The cost for Rotarians and our partners is $15.
Please see Rogers info below.

And to the all important Christmas break up at the RSL on December 12th - 6.30 for 7pm start.
Bryce has kindly agreed to MC the event.
The details are as follows are in this Bulletin. Please let Di Harrison know your intentions as
soon as possible.

Pride of Workmanship information:

Monday 5 December at  Old Gippstown from 6.00 for a 7.00 pm meal.
Cost per Rotarian is $15.00
Guests have been advised to arrive between 6.30 and 6.45.

(*BBQ Detail - Len will arrive with the trailer shortly after 4.00 and will inform his team when he wants them to arrive.
*Catering - Lyn has contacted some helpers to assist preparing salads - ring her if you would like to help. She has also ordered the meat, cordial, and sweets. Thanks Lyn.
Maureen and Rog will be at Old Gippstown at 4.30 for preliminary organisation.)

We know the guests often arrive early so it's ideal if some Rotarians are there to mingle with them before the festivities begin.

We also encourage you to fill the gaps on tables for the dinner and chat with the school communities and especially the students.
We have 76 non-Rotarian guests including 15 recipients and family members along with 17 staff members, including 7 Principals.

Drinks are managed by the Old Gippstown staff and so we will be charged their prices this year.
Hope to see you there.

Rotary Area of Focus December – Fighting Disease
Rotarians Against Malaria

Rotarians Against Malaria (RAM) Australia are volunteers who are passionate about eliminating malaria in partner countries. RAM is an Australian registered charity and is part of the Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS).  Malaria is a deadly disease that has killed or debilitated people for centuries.  While inroads have been made to reduce the incidence of disease, malaria remains a disease that causes over 400,000 fatalities every year, many of whom are children.  Malaria significantly impacts on the health of over 200 million people each year, with a particularly heavy burden on poorer communities, mostly in Africa and in other tropical regions.

Malaria has almost been eliminated in Timor Leste and Vanuatu is aiming for elimination in the next few years.  However, the disease remains a significant problem in Papua New Guinea, Eastern Indonesia, and the Solomon Islands.

RAM supports projects that aim to control and ultimately eliminate malaria and works with government health programs in partner countries to implement strategies in line with WHO guidelines.  RAM supports projects that work to reduce both the mosquito population and the opportunities for mosquitoes to spread of the malaria parasite.  Projects have included the provision and distribution of Long-Lasting Insecticide-treated Nets (LLINs), indoor residual spraying programs and environmental improvements.
