Di's Dialogue # 26

Another week has slipped by and we are now in February!

Fireside meetings were held on Monday night and I thank the Committee Chairs: Diane Wilkinson, Bill Connell and Robin Noakes, for gathering their members together to discuss plans, activities and projects,  and importantly, enjoy fellowship together.

This week we will be meeting at the Moe Hotel in the ‘Back Room’. Time is 6.15pm for a 6.30pm start. Cost is $20.00/head which covers a meal. There will be a choice of four main meals and two desserts.

Thank you to Rog Taylor for following up this suggested venue and for organising a guest speaker. The guest speaker is Eddie Swann who will demonstrate the use of a defibrillator.

A further booking has been made for 22nd February (4th Monday of the month - Club Assembly).

I will be seeking feedback from members and if the Moe Hotel is acceptable as a regular venue for Rotary meetings, then we can look at a more permanent arrangement.

I have invited Alisa Stimson along to our meeting on Monday and am hoping she is able to attend.

My quote for this week...

Stay safe everyone!

President Di

Rotary Area of Focus February: Promoting Peace

                                                  Peace Fellowships
Each year, Rotary awards up to 130 fully funded fellowships for dedicated leaders from around the world to study at one of the Rotary Peace Centres.

These awards include up to 50 fellowships for Master degrees and 80 for certificate studies at premier universities. The Rotary Peace Fellowships cover tuition and fees, accommodation and board, round-trip transportation and all internship and field-study expenses.

The Rotary Peace Fellowship is designed for leaders with work experience in peace and development. Through academic training, practice and global networking opportunities, the program delivered through the Rotary Peace Centres aims to develop the capacity for peace and the development of professionals and practitioners to become experienced and effective catalysts for peace. Peace fellows are committed to community and international service and the pursuit of peace.

Master degree program: Accepted candidates study peace and development issues with research-informed teaching and a diverse student body. The programs last 15 to 24 months and include a two to three-month field study, which participants design themselves.

Professional development certificate program: During the one-year program, experienced peace and development professionals with diverse backgrounds gain practical skills to promote peace within their communities and across the globe. Fellows complete field studies, and they also design and carry out a social change initiative.

Peace Fellows in Action: Since the program began in 2002, the Rotary Peace Centres have trained more than 1,300 fellows who now work in more than 115 countries. Many of the Peace Fellows serve in leadership positions in Governments, non-government organisations, the military, education, law enforcement and international organisations like the United Nations and the World Bank.
