ADVANCE AUSTRALIA FAIR
Australians all let us rejoice,
For we are young and free,
We've golden soil and wealth for toil,
Our home is girt by sea,
Our land abounds in natures gifts,
Of beauty rich and rare,
In history's page, let every stage
Advance Australia Fair!
In joyful strains then let us sing,
"Advance Australia Fair!"
FOUR WAY TEST
1.
Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

‘Maureen’s Moments’
#47
Hi all
Last Monday was the final dinner meeting for the year and it was with a little sadness that I thanked all members for their ongoing support and commitment during my year as President.  I have had such a great year and I will remember and value all the experiences that I have shared with you all. Following our dinner meeting, we held joint Board Meeting where we finalised all outstanding matters and then I handed over to the incoming President Peter to address the Board.
Monday night we also heard from PE Peter who continued with his ideas for the coming Rotary year. Peter distributed a draft copy of the committee structure and suggested to members that they check it over and discuss it further with him if required.
Next Monday is the Changeover and Kishor will need final numbers as soon as possible and Friday by the latest.  Cost of the three course meal will be $25.00.  The night is shaping up to be another great evening with representatives from LRH, Gippsland Centenary House and Inner Wheel Club attending as beneficiaries of our Golf Day as well as members from other Rotary Clubs, Lions and Apex representatives.
Looking forward to seeing everyone next Monday for our final evening for the 2017/18 Rotary year

President Maureen

Where & When

Sunday 29th April 2018

8:30 am

Federation University, Berwick Campus, Berwick
 Berwick/Clyde Road, Berwick, 3806

Attendees - PE Peter Kingsbury, Secretary Rhonda Crooks, Youth& Vocation Robin Noakes, PDG Bryon Puddy and brand new member Bill Connell.

News From Last Meeting

Hawker Street Development - Barry updated the club on last week's community meeting. With 60+ in attendance, the Latrobe Council's stance on this issue very quickly altered from one of selling the property, to instead, supporting the interested parties in future development of the site.
A very pleasing outcome!

Membership - Following the induction of Bill Connell last meeting, and the finalised transfer of Helen MacDonald from Traralgon RC, membership now sits at 30 (which includes Honorary member Daniel Barry). Helen will be attending our social gathering at Len's next meeting. She has been a Past President and Treasurer as well as District Treasurer, and joined Rotary back in May 2007. I know everyone will make both new members extremely welcome.

MUNA Training - In the absence of Robin and Vocation committee menbers, Roger has agreed to attend the MUNA training (which clashes with Avenues of Service) this Sunday. He will meet our delegates Kylie and as well as their teacher /counsellor Karen Anders. Both girls attend Traralgon College, and will be representing Germany in the Model United Nations Assembly debate. The girls have agreed to provide feedback to the club following the event on 18 May, and we will also offer the opportunity to present to our club on one of the vacant program days still available.

May is Bowel Scan Month - Kishor and Ross will monitor this program, and will canvass local pharmacies to ensure the event gets good exposure and community participation.

Live Fast, Die Young (Part 2)
Greenland Shark - The incredibly slow growing (and slow moving) species' lifespan was estimated (using a novel carbon dating method) to be 272 years.

Gall Midge - Every day is judgement day for this family of flies. The gall midge emerges fully grown in the morning and perishes by that afternoon. So short is their adult life span, in fact, that the bugs don't even eat a first - let alone a last - supper.

Quahog Clam - While these plankton eating molluscs, which are found in the Atlantic off North America and Europe , often live for about 2 centuries, one named Ming lasted a mind-bending 500 years. Like a tree, growth rings provide scientists with clues about the creature's age - and the ocean conditions and climate in which it lived.

Pygmy Shrew - This tiny creature, weighing less than an ounce, is not only the smallest American mammal but also one of the shortest living. Its maximum lifespan is thought to be about a year, and many die after only 2 to 4 months. Despite their tiny bodies, these shrews starve extremely easily because of their lightning fast metabolism.
