Hi Everyone,

Well, the club has had a very quiet week. Last Monday night Robin Noakes gave a presentation on Wheel Chairs for Kids showing us what uses the chair has for the disabled children.

Roger Taylor gave a quick report on the Golf Day everything well. We still have plenty of raffle tickets to sell, if you require anymore contact Co-Ordinator Bill Connell. Also, if you think you might be able to do an extra shift see Bill.

This week February 10th we have Club assembly.
On the February 17th we are having a social night out at Moe Thai 6pm start if anybody else wishes to come on the night please contact Lyn on 0434239744

That’s all for now

Congratulations Brother Oliver Pickett – 2025 Senior Australian of the Year

Brother Olly Pickett has been recognised for his amazing work in supplying wheelchairs to needy children across the globe by being named 2025 Senior Australian of the Year.

Just last week, Brother Olly and WA’s other nominees in the Australian of the Year awards dined at Government House as a guest of Governor Chris Dawson to thank them for their efforts.

And having flown from Perth to Canberra for the weekend ceremony, the 84 year-old was then feted by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for the profound difference  Wheelchairs For Kids has made since it was founded in 1996

The mission was to provide adjustable wheelchairs and occupational therapy expertise for children in developing countries, free of charge.

Since then, more than 60,000 custom-built wheelchairs have been gifted to children in over 80 countries.

With over 250 retiree workshop volunteers, Wheelchairs For Kids is one of Western Australia’s largest (and with an average age of 74, one of Australia’s oldest) volunteer-led charities.

A further 550 people from aged care and community groups sew covers for wheelchair soft supports, and crochet rugs and soft toys.

Brother Olly also spearheaded the development of an innovative, low-cost wheelchair design to World Health Organization standards that grows as the children do – a world first.

Wheelchairs For Kids is just one way that Olly has improved the lives of others.

For 26 continuous years, his life-changing community service has ignited a ripple effect of kindness and generosity.
