Gippsland Rotary Golf Classic 2022
When we look down from the top of a mountain, we sometimes forget how we got there.
I have a similar feeling reflecting on the unqualified success of this year's golf classic, as it's easy to bask solely in the positives after such an event.
But looking back, I feel even more pleased that Moe Rotary pulled off another great event, despite the many hurdles we faced, such as:
• reduced workforce due to work commitments, retirements, unavailability due to health, travel etc.
• the ever-present threat of COVID-19 and associated constraints to our planning
• a late decision regarding catering (we reverted to the proven winner by opting for Chicken Mick's catering)
• another year where we refrained from asking our retail community for auction donations due to restricted trade impacted by Covid.
However, despite the potential obstacles, we had a perfect day, sufficient manpower (just), outstanding planning (thank you Maureen), and a willing group of Rotarians who pitched in on the day.
While it's sometimes unwise to list helpers, for fear of overlooking someone, it would be remiss of me not to acknowledge the sterling jobs of all Rotarians, but in particular -
• Shen and Michael for their wonderful generosity in donating key prizes
• Unsung hero, former Moe Rotarian Daniel Barry, for again willingly making a significant financial contribution
• Treasurer Diane for attention to detail and regular updates on our financial progress
• Robin and Alan for once again delivering excellent results in the areas of promotion, manpower, (thanks team, including the 2 Davids), media (thanks Kate) and cart management (thanks Peter Dell)
• Robin and Hutchy for working as a team to ensure we had a strong contingent of corporate golfing representation and sponsorship
• All the cooks, ticket sellers, auction runners, drink station operators, Inner Wheel ladies etc etc etc.
• Maureen for not only being the glue that holds it everything together, but for her ability to continually preempt problems before they arrive
Amazingly, we will have raised in excess of $20,000 by the time Diane produces final figures. How lovely that Pam Dunstan was the second prize winner,
with Anne Poelsma (a Registration regular) the third name drawn. Both recipients are no doubt appreciative of the generosity of Shen and Michael.
What awaits us as we consider GRGC 23?
