A big thanks to Barry whose metal bending prowess is being sorely tested with reluctant brackets.
Golf Day raffle ticket sales are under way and thanks to those on the roster. We really need folk to
step forward and take a shift, so thanks in advance for your continuing support.
Our Memory Lane night on 30 January proved to be a well attended and much enjoyed event. There
was so much energy in the conversation between old friends catching up.
Thank you to Maureen for pulling the attendance/registration together, and to Lyn Cassar for
organising the Buffet. The liquor licence was utilised with plenty of beverages available to our
guests. A special thanks to all members who brought and shared a bevy.
I have included a few photos of the event, thanks Kate for capturing the moment.
There was a big take up of the offer of the USB stick copy of the video. One remains available at $10
Please email me if you would like it.

Rotarians Take a Trip Down Memory Lane
An evening of reflection and Rotary fellowship was enjoyed recently, when past and current Rotarians, together with members of Inner Wheel Club of Moe and other invited guests, attended a social event at the Moe Library Meeting Rooms.
Two meeting rooms were converted into a small cinema and a very entertaining video, produced by club President Robin Noakes, and captured Rotarians in action in the Moe community over the past seventy-four years, was viewed by an appreciative audience.
Accompanied by a contemporary soundtrack and featuring photos of past Rotarians in service and having fun, the video invoked happy memories. The recording also included snapshots of Moe and Newborough through an historical lens and provided a context for the various Rotary projects and activities undertaken in the district.
A light supper and refreshments were enjoyed after the screening.
President Robin Noakes was thrilled with the response and said, “So enthusiastic was the audience that a second showing was requested by quite a few guests."
Pictured below are photos with current Moe Rotarians, invited guests and partners of Rotarians enjoying fellowship.

Chinese New Year 2023
Celebrated in China for thousands of years, the Lunar New Year is based on a
calendar that uses both lunar (cycles of the Moon) and solar (Earth's annual
orbit around the Sun) to determine dates. This means that the date of Lunar
New Year varies from year to year because it follows the cycle of the moon.
Chinese New Year 2023 falls on Sunday, January 22nd , with celebrations
culminating in the Lantern Festival on February 5th.
2023 will be the Year of the Rabbit, one of 12 animals in the Chinese
zodiac. The animal designations of the zodiac follow a 12-year cycle and are
always used in the same sequence.
The Rabbit is the fourth of all zodiac animals. Legend has it the Rabbit was
proud—arrogant even—of its speed. He was neighbours with Ox and always
made fun of how slow Ox was. One day, the Jade Emperor said the zodiac
order would be decided by the order in which the animals arrived at his party.
Rabbit set off at daybreak. But when he got there, no other animals were in
sight. Thinking that he would obviously be first, he went off to the side and
napped. However, when he woke up, three other animals had already arrived.
One of them was the Ox he had always looked down upon. I’m sure
there’s a lesson to be learned there!
In Chinese culture, rabbits represent the moon. Some say it is because the
shadows of the moon resemble a rabbit. Others say it is because of the
rabbit’s pure characteristics. Some of the words used to describe the
characteristics of the Rabbit include: talented and affectionate, a seeker of
tranquillity, vigilant, witty, quick-minded and ingenious.
To outsiders, the Rabbit’s kindness may make them seem soft and weak.
However, in truth, the Rabbit’s quiet personality hides their confidence and
strength. They are steadily moving towards their goal, no matter what
negativity confronts them.
With their good reasoning skills and attention to detail, they make great
scholars. They are socializers with an attractive aura. However, they find it
hard to open up to others and often turn to escapism. A plain and routine life
is not their style. Though conservative and careful in their actions, they need
surprises every so often to spice things up.
Previous Years of the Rabbit include: 2011, 1999, 1987, 1975, 1963, 1951,
1939
