Meeting on Monday 11th April, at the Moe RSL 6.00 for 6.30pm

Di’s Dialogue #81

The end of daylight saving brings the realisation that we are heading into colder weather. Gone are the balmy summer evenings…

Thank you to our chairs who contacted members of their committees for ‘Fireside’ meetings. Updates regarding various programs and projects will be provided to members at our Club Assembly which will be held on the 4th Monday of the month.

This week, we have two guest speakers: Wendy Gibson and Luana Brock, both from Life Skills Victoria (LSV), previously known as Moe Life Skills. LSV is a not-for-profit National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provider of quality education, training, disability, and community services. Wendy will speak about the NDIS programs offered through the High Street Community Hub, Moe. Luana will specifically speak about the Arts program. I have offered to step in and chair the presentations for Rog Taylor who is currently unwell.

Secretary Maureen Bishop will provide an update from our recent Gippsland Rotary Golf Classic event as well as the major raffle on behalf of Chair, Rog Taylor.
In attendance, will be two other guests who are interested in Rotary. I mentioned Abigail Brown in last week’s bulletin. The second guest, Sandy Auger, is the Manager of Disability Daily Support Services, and has been invited to our meeting by Robin Noakes.

The evening will be busy, and I hope to have a couple of minutes to present information regarding a food can collection initiative, ‘We Can Do Better,’ that links with a local food relief program. Woolworths will be the site for collecting cans each Thursday during the month of June. I will be seeking volunteers to assist with the initiative. It will also provide Moe Rotarians with an opportunity to be visible and promote what we do in Rotary!

Just a reminder, if you are not well, please consider zooming in rather than attending Rotary in-person. Robin Noakes will send out the link on Sunday evening. To members who are not feeling too sprightly, I hope you get well soon!

Just in case you missed the email from District 9820, a ‘Club Development Summit’ is happening on Sunday 1st May at the Warragul Country Club, Sutton Street, Warragul, starting at 10.00am. The email from PDG Tim Moore, was sent to all Rotarians on Monday, and it would be great if we had a few Moe Rotarians attend. The registration link is in the email.

Lastly, if you are a motor sports enthusiast, I hope you enjoy the 2022 Formula One Australian Grand Prix happening in Melbourne this weekend. A quick trivia question for F1 aficionados…What is the name of the youngest F1 driver to win a race? Sargent-at-Arms, Barry Dunstan, will seek fines from Rotarians who know the answer!

Stay safe everyone and I look forward to seeing everyone on Monday night.

The RSL has been booked for February 28, March 14, April 11 and April 25 (Anzac Day).
My thoughts on this meeting is that we are having so few face to face meetings, that we dispense with the Public Holiday/No Rotary meeting concept, and meet on the evening of the public holiday.
Let me know if I’ve got it wrong, and whether you want me to book the RSL Board Room for 6.30? on April 18.
Gippsland Rotary Golf Classic 2022.

Since 2001 the Rotary Club of Moe has proudly conducted the Gippsland Rotary Golf Classic as its major community fundraiser, and this year’s event was yet another outstanding success. Since its inception, the event has been conducted at the beautiful and challenging Yallourn Golf Club. Following an exceptional summer period, with an ideal combination of rain and sunshine, the course was in outstanding condition, and a field of 96 competitors participated.
Once again the preliminary planning ensured that the activity was COVID-19 compliant, safe-guarding the 32 teams who had entered the 3-Person Ambrose event. Great weather all day, and the sumptuous meal following the golf were highlights of the highly successful day.
Due to the generous support of sponsors, avid golfers, Rotarians, Inner Wheel members and Yallourn Golf Club members, the annual charity fundraiser raised $22,799, a wonderful sum which will be distributed amongst the community over the next few months. Recent beneficiaries have been Gippsland Rotary Centenary House, Latrobe Regional Hospital’s cancer Care, Moe Rotary Club’s Emergency Relief Fund, together with support for a number of smaller community projects.
Congratulations to our major golf winners:
Best 3 Person Ambrose Team was Eltigre represented by Michael Anderson, Glenn Whitehead and Ashley Forde with the outstanding score of 56 5/6 nett.
Runner Up with 57 1/3 was “Old but Good” Peter Brown, Judy Budge and John Southon.
Second Runner Up was the Drummond’s team of Damien Leggo, Josh Hall and Peter Fanning with 59 points.
Best Rotary team this year was the Rotary Club of Moe (Alan Bishop, John Hutchinson and Peter Kingsbury) with 64 2/3 points, lagging a little behind the pace setters.
Best team home for the Ladies’ event was Lyn McAlister, Evelyn Graske and Lola Carter.
The Rotary Club of Moe confidently looks forward to next year’s event , and trusts that like all other sporting and social organisations, , there will be minimal upheaval causer by COVID-19 restrictions.

This was supposed to be in last week's bulletin, I messed up!

This is what happens when your trying to do 3 things at once and Robin Noakes creeps up beside you to take a candid shot.
