In joyful strains then let us sing,

Len’s Log 4

Last week we had a great presentation by Mark Themann, Director of the Latrobe Regional Gallery. The programmes planned over the next months in the Morwell located Gallery as outlined by Mark sounded exciting, with both International and local artist and different media being exhibited. We are very lucky as a community to have such a facility in our midst.

We also found out that we have been successful in our District Grant application for out summer Marigolds Project. In association with this we also had a look at a prototype wheelbarrow at our Board Meeting and we are suggesting to our “builders” at the RRR Emporium, some modifications for the flower displays we are preparing involving these wheelbarrows.

The Board has also had a serious discussion about our costs incurred for Rotary International, District 9820 and Rotary Down Under Magazine, all compulsory subscriptions, and how we can possibly ensure we are financially viable and responsible in our Membership subs and other elements. I will be presenting the information for a club discussion on Monday next, so the Board can have some ideas from the Rotarians across the club before a decision is made for this Rotary year.

We need a good attendance this week for these ideas to be well represented.

Fellowship Month

Rotary Fellowships Month -
June is designated as “Rotary Fellowships Month” by the RI Board to recognize the importance of international fellowship and good will among Rotarians with similar recreational interests, vocations, and health and medical issue-oriented interests, to promote increased participation in fellowships and increase understanding of this program. The RI Board encourages fellowships groups to highlight activities through projects, activities, and events in celebration of “Rotary Fellowships Month” in June.

“Fellowship is wonderful; it illuminates life’s pathway, spreads good cheer, and is worth high price.”
Rotary Founder, Paul Harris

How to Survive a Heart Attack When Alone.
Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack without help, the person whose heart is beating improperly, and who begins to feel faint, has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness.
However these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously. A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest. A breath and a cough must be produced about every 2 seconds without let up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again.
Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating. The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it to regain a normal rhythm. In this way heart attack victims can get help or get to a hospital.
