Di's Dialogue # 18
I am super excited about tomorrow afternoon, as I will finally see our daughter, Ellie, and her husband, Tom, now that Melburnians are allowed to travel to regional areas. I get very emotional just thinking about seeing them and can hardly wait!! To everyone who is finally able to see their loved ones, 'Let us dance in the sun, wearing wild flowers in our hair' (Susan Polis Schutz).
On the Rotary front, thank you to Diane Wilkinson and Bryon Puddy for their presentation on Monday night about The Rotary Foundation (TRF). There was a question asked by PP Peter Kingsbury about the amount the Club has contributed to the Rotary Foundation over the years. Bryon advised that we have contributed some $83,000 to Foundation/Polio Plus! Website Wizard, Maureen Bishop will upload the presentation to the club website.
This coming Monday we have a Board meeting and the general membership have a night off from Zoom. Thank you to our diligent secretary, Maureen Bishop, for preparing the agenda. I will send out the Zoom invite on Sunday afternoon to Board members. Reports from Club Chairs, Secretary and Treasurer will be provided to members at Club Assembly the following week.
This week I have been busy with attending an ESRAG webinar on 'Planning for Success' in relation to projects. It was really worthwhile as I gained access to some great project planning documents. I also listened to a Rotary International Membership webinar on inclusion and diversity and gained some ideas. Some of these ideas were shared with Sharyn Thompson (The Hub - Moe Life Skills) when I met up with her today. Service comes in many forms and we pondered over ways in which the Rotary Club of Moe can help support programs run by The Hub. Sharyn now has a greater understanding of what our club does and can do. All about networking!
I have also been able to respond to a request by AG, Tim Wills to submit a proposed lunchtime activity on Australia Day next year. We will have access to a $1000 grant to simultaneously promote Rotary across Australia between 12.30pm-2.30pm on Australia Day. Details are still to be finetuned but at this stage I am hoping we can run a BBQ and hand out updated club brochures.
Another way of promoting our club is through participating in the Latrobe Regional Hospital Virtual Fun Run/Walk. I have registered a team called 'Moe Rotarians' and we have four starters - Alan & Maureen Bishop, Rog Taylor and myself, to do a 5 km walk. Cost is $20.00 per participant and funds go towards the LRH Emergency Department. The team will gather on Saturday 28 November at 10.00am at Pash's Pavilion and we will walk along the trail for 2.5kms and then walk back to Adventure Playground for a promotional photoshoot. We will be wearing our Rotary shirts to be seen, hopefully as 'People of Action'! If you would like to be part of this fundraising activity, please call me so I can register you in our team. I am also keen to invite members of InnerWheel and hope they will join us.
Have a lovely weekend everyone, enjoy the warm weather that is coming our way and take care.
