Di's Dialogue # 38

What a start to my weekend! Two little boys are keeping Grant and myself on our toes and we are loving it!  So, my favourite words to share this Mother's Day weekend come from Winnie the Pooh:

"Together is a wonderful place to be"

Monday night will see us altogether at the Moe Hotel where Rog Taylor will chair the meeting. We will have time to reflect on the recent Golf Day and Fundraising effort.

I am also hoping that some Moe Rotarians are interested in joining Rotarians from Morwell and Traralgon Central next Sunday, 16 May at 11.00am over at Lake Kernot, Morwell. I will need to send through numbers to Mike Ainswerth on Tuesday for catering (BBQ lunch after the walk around the lake). The walk has been organised as a leisurely activity to raise funds for RAM (Rotarians Against Malaria).  I do realise the date clashes with the first Sunday of the Youth Mental Health First Aid course and so please feel free to support either event!

The following weekend is my final PETS training (President-Elect) session which will be held face-to-face in Traralgon on Saturday 22 May, starting at 1.00pm through till 5.00pm, followed by Dinner at 7.00pm.

On Sunday 23 May, an online District Assembly will be held from 10.00am till 4.00pm. If you are interested in learning more about Rotary, please join the sessions that appeal to you. I am hoping Chairs for the new Rotary year are able to participate in the District Assembly. One good thing about Zoom is that the sessions will be recorded so all Rotarians can view the sessions when time suits!

In closing, many thanks to the committee chairs who ran Fireside meetings this week.  I was unable to attend the community Fireside as I was very busy with final planning and preparations for the opening of the online MUNA (Model United Nations Assembly/Activity) 2021 Registrations at 9.00am on Friday.  Thank you Bryce for your excellent communication with the Youth/Vocational committee members. Anyone would think you were a journalist!

Oh, and one last thing.... Secretary Maureen was approached by the LV Express to provide an advert for National Volunteers Week 2021. All Rotary Clubs have been offered a discounted rate. Approval was given by several Board members for me to go ahead and provide an editorial and advert to promote and inspire volunteers to join Rotary. Keep an eye out for the advert in the paper this coming week.

See you all at the Moe Hotel on Monday night. Take care and have a lovely weekend wherever you are!
Yours in Rotary,

How to identify Australians
We are indebted to our Historian Rotarian Ross for doing some research and confirming the findings, in the collection of notes he submitted for all to read, from his recent travels around the State and Whoop Whoop (Australian!):

They waddle when they walk due to the 53 expired petrol discount
vouchers stuffed in their wallet or purse.

They pronounce Melbourne as "Mel-bin".

They think it makes perfect sense to decorate highways with large
fibreglass bananas, prawns and sheep.

They think "Woolloomooloo" is a perfectly reasonable name for a place,
that "Wagga Wagga" can be abbreviated to "Wagga",
but "Woy Woy" can't be called "Woy".

Their hamburgers will contain beetroot.  Apparently it's a must-have.

They don't think it's summer until the steering wheel is too hot to
handle.

They believe that all train timetables are works of fiction.
