Our home is girt by sea,
Our land abounds in natures gifts,
Of beauty rich and rare,
In history's page, let every stage
Advance Australia Fair!
In joyful strains then let us sing,
"Advance Australia Fair!"
FOUR WAY TEST
1.
Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Pete's Peregrinations
#38

It has been a great week with the official announcement from the Latrobe Valley Authority and Latrobe City about the railway themed playground for the Rotary Park. Four years in gestation, involving a lot of hard work and the patience Job on the part of Alan and Maureen and the Community Committee, we got it across the line.

Well maybe we can improve the botanic gardens, as a follow up project. This should have community involvement, similar to the Morwell Rose Garden. We have already contributed to some trees there, that were planted by our In-coming Rotary exchange students.

Three Moe Rotarians attended the District Avenues of Service meeting in Warragul. It was proposed that Rotary clubs be set up in primary schools, which will lead on to Interact, Rotaract, and then onto Rotary.  Nothing was mentioned about the existing Rotary Junior Community Awards and how they would fit into the new structure. Moe Rotary is already integrating this into our proposed Interact Club at our local secondary school.

PDG Don Ripper is busy getting the 100 year celebrations of Rotary in Australia ready for 2020. He is also in Charge of the Rotary International  convention for Melbourne in 2023. He will be busy and the club will offer him every assistance in making these two projects a success.

On Tuesday, Di Harrison and her team provided dinner for the Blaze Aid Volunteers, who are camped at the Yinnar Football Club. Great effort Di.

Rotarian Len Cairns, provided an overview of the 3 Community consultations into mental health and drug and alcohol detox and rehabilitation for the Latrobe City and greater Gippsland.

See you on Monday

Stories
AGM 2017-18
Members are  reminded to reflect on any issues requiring attention ahead of this years AGM on Monday night. Treasurer Bryon has sent around the Club financials in an email dated  11 November
RYLA last week
Robin introduced Guest speaker Brad Graham who gave 2 interesting reports. His trip to Cambodia, and his Rotary Youth Leadership program (RYLA) at Summit Camp, Trafalgar.

He spoke of the challenges, both physical and mental and surprises along the way. It was quite evident that Brad got a lot from RYLA. He was impressed by the way the Rotarians, who were running the program, drew out various ways of approaching thinking. Robin advises he has received feedback that, from a personal development point of view the RYLA program far surpassed the benefits of the trips Brad has made to China and Cambodia. In closing, Brad remarked that he was investigating joining Rotaract which drew a round of applause. Well done RYLA!
NOVEMBER RF  4

November is Rotary Foundation Month.

During this month, each bulletin edition will have an article about how your Rotary Foundation (RF) money is spent to assist with humanitarian projects world-wide. It’s important to note that 91% 0f funds contributed to RF are spent directly on projects.

Supporting Education: More than 775 million people over the age of 15 are illiterate. That’s 17% of the world’s adult population. Rotary helps to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, and to reduce gender disparity. We do it by taking action to empower educators to inspire learning at all ages, through…

  • teacher training
  • adult literacy programs
  • educating refugees
  • coaching teachers
  • mentoring students
  • schools 4 freedom (action group against slavery)

“When you teach somebody how to read, they have that for a lifetime. It ripples through the community one by one

(This was the last in this series from Rog Taylor, on the Rotary Foundation)

Thoughts from last meeting.
-President Peter gave a brief report on the Avenues of Services presentation at Warragul last Sunday, accompanied by with Robin and Di Harrison  and PE Helen

-Dave Woods expressed his thanks to the members that assisted in the Easter Friday Childrens Hospital appeal, raising some $900. Peter proposed $500 to be made as a Club donation. The motion was moved by Di Wilkinson and seconded by Di Harrison

-Alan Bishop advised the Club that Bruce Paul, Alan and Maureen Bishop will be the Clubs invited  representative to attend the announcement of the Railway themed park at the MOe botanic garden
- Treasurer Bryan confirmed that there were still a couple of sponsor payments from the Golf Day outstanding and the best raised funds will be nearer $27,000. Due to increased RI and District dues,  next years membership fees will have to be seriously looked at.

- Len gave a thorough progress to date with the Community drugs and alcohol forums at last 3 Wednesday RSL meetings in Mow, Morwell and Traralgon. He expressed thanks to all members who attended and supported the events, It leaves him to reflect on the points to draft up to forward to the Latrobe Advocate and to raise the matter the the state government minister

-Di Harrison was asked by the DG at the SUnday meeting, and extended a request to members to assist the feeding of the members helping BlazeAid  Yinnar on Tues 30 April

-Robin asked to give a thought to this years Business Excellence Award by 13 May 2019, for presentation in June
And in Swindle circles, its getting very hairy with the prize pool swelling to $628. Alan Bishop won himself a 7 and Alan Sinott unluckily drawing 6
