ADVANCE AUSTRALIA FAIR
Australians all let us rejoice,
For we are young and free,
We've golden soil and wealth for toil,
Our home is girt by sea,
Our land abounds in natures gifts,
Of beauty rich and rare,
In history's page, let every stage
Advance Australia Fair!
In joyful strains then let us sing,
"Advance Australia Fair!"
FOUR WAY TEST
1.
Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Well, I'm sorry this musing is a little late as I have been doing some in-depth research on Heroism. This was prompted by a suggestion at last week's board meeting.

The suggestion was that we should honour our Rotary Super-heros in a more tangible way. It is just not fitting enough that our heroes have reached the pantheon of Walhalla. The hall of the mountain King is a might chilly this time of year, with one of the best years for skiing for sometime.

So, I thought I had better delve into the latest research on Heroism. Not just your ordinary run of the mill 'for valour' stuff. Being google savvy, it just took a couple of key strokes to enter the world of gaming super heroes. There is a whole world out there at our finger tips.

You too can have all the traits of a Hugh Jackman Wolverine, or snap freeze the bad guys and girls. Not only do you have something that you excel at, that can repel the opposition, but wait there's more. You can have gender options. It seems a bit Politically Incorrect that the female characters in the Outwatch game have to wear bathing costumes. If you are into more morally correct gaming, there is Godville.  To reach saintly status you need lots of encouragement lest you stumble to the other end, where the really evil people are.

As for me, I have not got over my fixation for Lara Croft in Tomb Raider. Her weaponry and fast reloads are of legendary status. Maybe that is what Bazza from Moe South was aiming at. We should be legends in our own lunch time. A great slogan, but harder to achieve.

In the meantime, we will just have to be mere mortals and gaze up at the pantheon of heroes, the John Dwyers and Claude Staffs. And try and be everyday heroes, mow the lawns and turn the sausages at the next sausage sizzle, while we dream...

Stories
June Fellowship month

Rotary Fellowships are international groups that share a common passion. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends around the world, explore a hobby or profession, and enhance your Rotary experience.

Fellowships are open to Rotarians, family members, and program participants and alumni. Groups are diverse and come from all walks of life and countries. You could even start one off yourself. Use social media to its best to gain international presence.

Some vibrant groups you may aspire to join:

Beer, wine, whiskey, golf, cricket, cooking, magicians, (lawyers!), music, photography, cruising, fishing, jazz, Italian culture

Operation Flinder doctor
WANTED- Bulk billing Rotarian doctor to assist with Operation Flinders participants pre-camp medicals

Barry, our Club Flinders contact has received an email from Simon Klapish, requesting a bulk billing GP. More details will be announced at the meeting

"Dear All,

I would like to ask if you could circulate this email request  to all of your respective Rotary Club members.

The issue:  The Latrobe Valley FLO campus participants for Operation Flinders camps need to have a pre-camp medical exam.  Unless we can find a doctor/s that will bulk bill for this, it becomes an expensive exercise for families that are already struggling.

The request:  For 1 or more Rotarian practicing GPs to provide bulk billing for pre-camp medical exams (held twice a year, in March/April and July/August, for 10 participants per camp).

The locations:  Most participants tend to be based in Morwell, Churchill and Traralgon, with fewer in Moe.

Responses:  Could any willing GPs please respond to Sarah and Julie at the Morwell Kurnai College FLO campus.

Many thanks in advance for any assistance able to be provided.

Regards,

Simon

Joke corner

I went to the liquor store Monday afternoon on my bicycle, bought a bottle of Johnny Walker and put it in the bicycle basket.

As I was about to leave, I thought to myself that if I fell off the bicycle, the bottle would break. So I drank all the Johnny Walker before I cycled home.

It turned out to be a very good decision, because I fell off my bicycle seven times on the way home.

(Overheard by Ross Maxfield), the cyclist... though draw your own conclusions!)
