How does MUNA work?
MUNA simulates the workings of the United Nations General Assembly right down to the Rules and Processes.
Teams of 2 students from Year 10 or 11 are selected to represent a nominated UN member state.
The resolutions for debate are typically drawn from resolutions that have passed through the General Assembly or the Security Council and cover issues such as Education, Environment, Health, Human Rights, Nuclear Proliferation, Poverty and Terrorism, the role of Women in Promoting Peace and Security, and World Peace.
Delegates are expected to extensively research the topics to be debated and be able to express the views of the country that they are representing, not their own or Australia's.
They are encouraged to wear the national costume of the country they are representing to add to the fun.
During the week, the Rotary Club of Moe agreed to sponsor another Latrobe Valley team from outside Moe, as there was insufficient local interest. As is the usual custom, the students are strongly encouraged to present to our club after the event. Robin has set a tentative date of August 6.
